ASHRAE Update on Top Standards ASHRAE Press Breakfast Las Vegas Convention Center Room N263C 8-9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31

It's not too late to register for the ASHRAE Press Breakfast at the 2011 Winter Conference!

The buildings we live, work and play in tend to take their toll-on the environment and our wallets. Buildings in the United States account for 72 percent of all electrical energy consumption-40 percent commercial and 32 percent residential-and are responsible for 39 percent of CO2 emissions, 13 percent water consumption and 15 percent of GDP per year. With the goal of reducing these statistics, ASHRAE has created two standards geared to achieving greater energy efficient and greener buildings

This year's ASHRAE Press Breakfast takes a look at the most recent version of ASHRAE's energy standard, Standard 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. It will also provide an update to Standard 189.1, Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings and outlines how the standard has impacted the building industry. The speakers participating in this year's briefing are:

o Lynn G. Bellenger, P.E., 2010-2011 ASHRAE Society president and partner of Pathfinder Engineers & Architects, Rochester, N.Y., giving an overall update and review of the Society

o Mick Schwedler, immediate past chair of the Standard 90.1 committee and manager, applications engineering, with Trane in La Crosse, Wis., presenting the newest updates and changes to 90.1-2010

o Kent Peterson, P.E., former chair of the Standard 189.1 committee and vice president and chief engineer of P2S Engineering Inc., Long Beach, Calif., providing an overall look at 189.1 and discussing its impact on the industry so far
