National Program for Building Energy Labeling Launches Major Milestone in Promoting High Performance Buildings & Energy Reduction

WHO: ASHRAE Joined by Leading Building Owners and Designers

WHAT: Breakfast Briefing at the National Press Club

WHERE: 529 14th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20045

A high-level briefing on one of the most important developments in High Performance Buildings - the ability to measure and publicly display the energy performance and indoor air quality of buildings. Print quality graphics of the sample label will be distributed at the briefing along with background material on high performance buildings.

WHEN: Tuesday December 8th

8:00 A.M. - Hot Buffet Breakfast

8:30 - 9:30 A.M. - High Level Briefing

WHY: The Building Energy Quotient (Building EQ) Energy Labels are far more helpful to building owners and tenants than design-based certifications because they measure real-world performance metrics like energy use and indoor air quality. Building EQ Labels will promote sustained reductions in energy use and will provide tenants with a science-based transparent measure for actual building performance. The general concept is similar to nutritional labels on food and the miles-per-gallon rating for automobiles.
