Industry Comes Together at ASC Spring Convention and Expo

562 Attend Convention and EXPO; 58 Attend PSA Short Course

Bethesda, MD – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) announces that 562 attendees participated in its Spring Convention and EXPO, held April 28-30, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, FL.  The event was co-located with the Council’s PSA Short Course, which also drew 58 participants, a record for this specific short course topic.

ASC’s attendance figures include full-paid attendees, partial-paid or one-day attendees, and EXPO booth staffers and EXPO attendees.  The combined figure is what the Council has used as its attendance figure for the past 30 years.

“The ASC is 100% focused on delivering value via exceptional programming, dynamic networking and collaborative discussions at its Spring Convention and EXPO,” reports Matthew E. Croson, President of ASC.  “We are pleased that so many ASC members and non-members found the program to be of strong value that we came close to eclipsing last year’s record of 587 total attendees.”

This year’s event featured keynotes from economist Jeff Dietrich of ITR and Dwight Tozer of ExxonMobil.  In addition, the event featured more than 45 technical papers and a 72 company EXPO event as part of the 2.5 day meeting.  This year’s event also featured new networking programming to include a new member lunch and a special meeting of sealant stakeholders discussing product category rule development for the industry.

PSA Short Course

The Council also held a short course focused on pressure sensitive adhesives which drew 58 attendees, a record for this specific technology oriented training – one of five that the Council offers on a rotating basis as a value add for the industry.

“The PSA Short Course featured 17 different industry experts breaking down the basics of PSA, which is designed for technically oriented individuals at member and non-member companies,” notes Croson.  “This year’s event featured a new opportunity for discussion, called the “Speaker’s Lounge,” which was simply a dedicated area that provided coffee and tea for attendees, in addition to the opportunity to take the learning to a more personal level.  The new program was well received by attendees.”

New Reports Launched at Convention

ASC debuted the macro findings of two new market reports, developed by Frost and Sullivan and ChemQuest Group in collaboration with the Council’s Global Resources Group.  Frost and Sullivan discussed the Central and South American Market Report and ChemQuest Group discussed the PSA in North America Market Report with attendees.

The full reports will be available for sale to members and non-members in June 2014 here.  They are available to pre-order now.

ASC Host International Leaders

During the Convention, ASC hosted eight association leaders, including representatives from the EU (FEICA), China (CATIA), Japan (JAIA) and North America (ASC).  The group participated in two information sharing sessions focused on regulations impacting each region, and a second discussion on sustainability trends.  In both cases, the focus of the discussion was on how to collaborate with any responses, on behalf of our shared members.  The meeting also included time dedicated to discussing the World Adhesives Conference, being held in Japan in 2016.

“As always, the ASC Convention and EXPO was an action packed 2.5 days with attendees meeting new people, making business connections, and learning from other experts about trends and opportunities facing the industry we serve,” added Croson.

Upcoming ASC Events

ASC is producing a Sustainability Forum, which will be held July 22-23, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore, MD.  Anyone involved with developing strategies to support customer’s sustainability efforts should plan on attending and discussing this trend with other industry professionals.  The meeting will feature 19 different speakers from across the supply chain, as well as a small EXPO designed to connect attendees with innovative raw material suppliers focused on sustainable products.

ASC’s Fall Convention and EXPO will be held October 22-23, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville, SC.  The meeting will feature four key notes, 45+ technical presentations and 70+ EXPO suppliers.  The ASC will also co-locate its Waterborne Short Course at the same location from October 21-22.
