ASC Scholarship Program Recognizes Four Students

The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) recently announced the recipients of 4 scholarships through its ASC Scholarship Program during its Annual Spring Convention and EXPO in Miami. The program started last year in memory of Gene Simmons, one of the industry’s most knowledgeable and respected pressure sensitive adhesive formulators, in order to support students pursuing degrees in a related field. Andrea Jorissen, a senior at St. Olaf College majoring in Chemistry,  and Joey Griese, a junior studying Packaging at the University of Wisconsin at Stout, both received awards of $1,500 by the ASC.  Jason Miller, a junior from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign pursuing a degree in Business Process Management & Information Systems, and Karen Li, a student at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School studying both Marketing & Strategy and Management Consulting, were awarded $500.

ASC Announces 2018 Scholarship Program Recipients

May 4, 2018 – Bethesda, MD The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) has awarded scholarships through the ASC Scholarship Program to four outstanding students pursuing science or business-related degrees.

The scholarship program was established in 2017 in memory of Gene Simmons, one of the industry’s most experienced, knowledgeable and respected pressure sensitive adhesive formulators. Gene was very dedicated to his development work, and recognized the tremendous importance of passing his knowledge onto those less experienced in his field. In keeping with his spirit of willing mentorship, the program was started with the support of his wife, Irene, and Evans Adhesive to support students in pursuit of their degree in a related field.

The 2018 ASC Scholarship Recipients are:

Andrea Jorissen - $1,500
Andrea is a senior pursuing a chemistry degree with a minor in Management and Environmental Studies at St. Olaf College, where she is currently president of the Chemistry Society. Andrea has had experience working in internships with both 3M and H.B. Fuller, where her father, Steve who is here today, has worked for the past 25 years. She was recently hired by H.B. Fuller as a Sourcing Analyst, starting full-time in July.

Joey Griese - $1,500
Joey is a junior pursuing a Packaging degree with a focus on R&D at the University of Wisconsin at Stout, where he is enrolled in the Honors College and has twice been awarded a Chancellor’s Award for academics. Last year, he completed an internship at a company that tests and certifies all types of packages, which has influenced him to pursue a career as a packaging engineer. His mother is currently a chemist at H.B. Fuller.

Jason Miller - $500
Jason is a junior pursuing a Business Process Management & Information Systems degree with a minor in computer science at Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is vice president of his fraternity, where he has successfully completed philanthropic projects during his tenure. His career plans include using his skills as a valuable and necessary asset in the adhesive and sealant industry. His mother is employed by Henkel Corporation.

Karen Li - $500
Karen is a double major in Marketing & Strategy and Management Consulting at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. In her first year, she achieved the Dean’s List and was invited to join Phi Eta Sigma, the nation’s oldest academic honor society for first-year students. As a young entrepreneur, she established a profitable online used book store. Her career goals include pursuing a marketing position in an adhesive company where she could successfully use her management skills. Her father is currently employed by Henkel Corporation.

This year’s recipients were announced on April 25th during ASC’s 2018 Annual Spring Convention and EXPO in Miami. Scholarship funds are sent to the financial aid offices at the recipient’s college or university.
