ST JOSEPH, MICHIGAN — The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has initiated four standards projects for rotary disk, drum, and flail mowers.

Three of the projects will pursue the adoption, with deviations, of current ISO standards:

• ISO 17101-1:2012, Agricultural machinery – Thrown-object test and acceptance criteria – Part 1: Rotary mowers

• ISO 17101-2:2012, Agricultural machinery – Thrown-object test and acceptance criteria – Part 2: Fail mowers

The remaining project, X639, Safety Standard for Large Row-Crop Flail Mowers, comprises the development of a new standard.

Currently there are no ASABE standards for all types of these mowers.
