ASABE Announces New International Standard for Towed Agricultural Vehicles

St Joseph, Michigan — The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announces that the international community has approved a new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard that provides a list of the recommended mechanical-connection combinations for towing and towed agricultural vehicles.

ISO 22471:2020, Permissible mechanical connection combinations between towed and towing agricultural vehicles, was developed and based on content originally developed within ASABE. Recommended combinations are laid out in a table, providing for each given towing-vehicle connection the corresponding permissible connections for the vehicle to be towed.

It is the intent of ASABE to adopt the document as a national standard in the near future. Currently the document can be purchased directly through standards resellers, which includes ANSI.

ASABE is accredited by the American National Standards Institute as the administrator for the U.S. technical advisory group to the ISO committee on tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry, ISO/TC 23, as well as its subcommittee on tractors, SC 4.

ASABE is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. Further information on the Society can be obtained by contacting ASABE at (269) 429-0300, emailing hq@asabe.org, or visiting http://www.asabe.org/.
