Arthur, Colyer and Saunders Elected Sonoco Officers

Hartsville, S.C. - Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified
global packaging companies, today announced that Vicki B. Arthur, vice
president, Global Corporate Accounts; John M. Colyer Jr., vice president
and general manager, Industrial Products division, North America; and Barry
L. Saunders, vice president, corporate controller and chief accounting
officer, have been elected corporate officers, according to Harris E.
DeLoach Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Arthur was recently named to head Sonoco's global corporate accounts
program which coordinates all aspects of the Company's business
relationship with several of its largest global consumer products company
customers. She reports to Charles Sullivan, executive vice president. Prior
to her current assignment, Arthur was division vice president and general
manager, Kraft where she had global responsibility for Kraft Foods. Arthur
joined Sonoco in 1984 and held various positions in financial reporting,
treasury and accounting before becoming staff vice president and treasurer
in 2002. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS
degree in accounting and holds an MBA in business from Duke University and
is a Certified Public Accountant.
Colyer is responsible for the Company's tube, core and industrial products
operations in North America. He reports to Jack Sanders, executive vice
president, Industrial. He joined Sonoco in 1983 and has held numerous
manufacturing positions at Sonoco in businesses serving industrial and
consumer markets. He was named division vice president of manufacturing,
Industrial Products, North America in 2004 and division vice president and
general manager, Industrial Products, North America in 2006. He is a
graduate of Southern Oregon State University with a BS degree in business
administration.
Saunders is responsible for all of corporate accounting/financial
reporting, the financial shared services center and all business unit
finance activities globally. He reports to Charles J. Hupfer, senior vice
president and chief financial officer. Saunders joined Sonoco in 1989 and
has held a number of positions in finance, treasury and accounting. He
graduated from the University of South Carolina with BS and MBA degrees in
business administration and is a Certified Public Accountant.
