Arrow Electronics Introduces New Group to Support Growing Lighting Industry
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 31 -- In response to rapid growth in the lighting market, the North American Components business of Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:ARW) announced today the formation of a group solely dedicated to supporting manufacturers of products containing high brightness light emitting diodes (LEDs).
Robert Sagebiel has been named Director of Lighting to lead the new organization, which consists of regional lighting specialists, lighting applications engineers and dedicated inside sales representatives. Sagebiel joins Arrow from Chicago Miniature Lamp, Inc., where he held positions in both sales and marketing. He has more than two decades of experience in the lighting industry, and spent the last several years building new business and managing product development.

The worldwide high brightness LED market grew by 37 percent in 2004, according to Strategies Unlimited, a market research and management consulting firm based in Mountain View, Calif. High brightness LEDs, when compared to traditional light sources, offer design features that are highly desirable when reliability, lower power, color effects, and lower maintenance costs are required.
Arrow's new organization will provide LED products and applications support and services in designs ranging from transportation to general lighting. Arrow also will continue to expand its lighting product portfolio, and recently added Harvatek International, a leading manufacturer of surface mount chip LEDs, to its supplier listing.
