ARM International Announces Student Design Competition Winners

Glen Ellyn, IL-The Association of Rotational Molders (ARM) International announces the winners of its 2008 Student Design Competition. The contest is held every year, in conjunction with the association's annual meeting. The 2008 Annual Meeting and ROTOPLAS '08, "The International Rotational Molding Exposition," take place October 22-23, 2008, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

"We believe that these students are moving rotational molding into a future of innovation," said ARM International President Corey Claussen of Custom Roto-Mold, Inc., South Benson, Minnesota. "These ideas are both unique and useful. The winners' creativity is noteworthy."

The winning entries represent the international face of the rotomolding industry. Both the first and second place winners are from Dongseo University in Busan, South Korea. Kim Jin Yeong designed "K1," a four-piece climbing structure for children. A modular bookcase/storage unit designed to stack in a semi-circle won second place for Ji Eun Kwon. Both young women are students of Professor James Lesko of Donseo University.

Joshua McCarther and Florian Frohlich took third place in the contest, with "Slalo," a ride-on toy for 3-5 year olds. They are students of faculty member Reinhardt Butter at Ohio State University. Frohlich was an exchange student at the time they submitted their entry, and will travel back from Germany to accept his award.

The three winning designs were selected from a field of thirty-plus entries. The student designers will be present at the 2008 Annual Meeting and ROTOPLAS '08. All entries will be on display in the ROTOPLAS '08 exhibit hall throughout the show. The winning students will be honored at ARM International's Annual Meeting.

NOVA Chemicals, Inc., a major supplier to the rotational molding industry, financially supports the Student Design Competition. "We want to be sure to acknowledge NOVA Chemical's sponsorship," Claussen said, "especially since three of our winners are traveling from Germany and Korea to receive their awards. NOVA's support makes that possible."
