Applied Kilovolts Buys Power Supply Rival Brandenburg

High voltage power supply specialists Applied Kilovolts have announced the acquisition of West Midlands competitor Brandenburg.

Applied Kilovolts' managing director Kevin Wheelhouse commented: "The acquisition is an ideal match, since Brandenburg's products are closely related but complementary to our own and there is very little overlap."

"The transaction gives us a critical mass in the high voltage power supply industry and is part of our strategy of growing the company organically and by acquisition."

By combining the strengths and expertise of both companies, the enlarged group will be able to offer customers even higher levels of service and leading edge products.

Products will continue to be sold under the Brandenburg name, and the company's 4600 m2 manufacturing plant and product design departments in Dudley will be retained.

Established in 1948, Brandenburg is a leading manufacturer of standard and custom built high voltage power supplies used in applications such as mass spectrometers, photomultiplier tubes and X-ray equipment.

Brandenburg was acquired from US power supply manufacturer, Astec. The acquisition was partially funded by private equity investment group Pi Capital.
