The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is pleased to announce that the first ANSI Caucus of 2012 will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012, and will feature Ari Schwartz, senior policy advisor to U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson. Mr. Schwartz is an expert in Internet security and standards, privacy protection, and expanding access to government information via the Internet.

In his role at the Department of Commerce (DOC), Mr. Schwartz helps oversee the Internet Policy Task Force, a coalition formed in 2010 to conduct a comprehensive review of the nexus between privacy policy, copyright, global free flow of information, cybersecurity, and innovation in the Internet economy. He originally joined DOC through the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), where he served as senior Internet policy advisor for the NIST Information Technology Lab.

Prior to his work in government, he was vice president and chief operating officer for the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) for more than 12 years. He regularly testified before Congress on critical Internet policy issues on behalf of CDT. In 2007 Mr. Schwartz was named one of the top five influential active thinkers by Security Computing magazine. He previously led the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC), an alliance of software companies, academics, and public interest groups dedicated to defeating spyware. In 2006 he won the RSA Conference Award for Excellence in Public Policy for his work building the ASC and other efforts against spyware.

Sponsored by ANSI, the Caucus will be held Friday, January 6, from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, 13th floor) in Washington, DC. RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
