ANSI February Caucus to Feature DoD's Greg Saunders



The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is pleased to announce that the next ANSI Caucus Luncheon, to be held Friday, February 3, will feature Greg Saunders, director of the Defense Standardization Program (DSPO) at the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Mr. Saunders will discuss current highlights of the DSPO in relation to standards.

In his current role, Mr. Saunders is responsible for policies and procedures governing the development and use of military specifications and standards, voluntary standards, qualified products/manufacturers lists, data item descriptions, and parts management. He oversees the Government Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) and DoD activities to mitigate the impact of diminishing manufacturing sources. Mr. Saunders also serves as vice chair of the Defense Standardization Council.

Previously, Mr. Saunders served as deputy director for acquisition practices in the Office of the Secretary of Defense where he was responsible for many of the same issues and was one of the principal proponents of commercial acquisition. He has served on two Defense Science Board Studies chaired by Secretary of Defense William Perry, and was responsible for implementation of their recommendations. He has testified before Congress and served on numerous study groups, committees, and boards.

He is the U.S. representative to North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) Committee on Standardization Representatives, chairs the Standardization Management Working Group, and represents the U.S. on the European Defense Agency's Materiel Standardization Harmonization Team. He is also the DoD representative on the Interagency Committee on Standards Policy (ICSP).

A past chairman of ASTM International's Board of Directors, Mr. Saunders serves on the ANSI Board of Directors, chairs the ANSI Government Member Forum, sits on the Board of Directors of SAE International, and chairs their Technical Standards Board.
