NESCC Releases Agenda for December 15 Meeting

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) have released an agenda for the second meeting of the Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC), to be held on December 15, 2009.

NESCC is a joint initiative formed to identify and respond to the current needs of the nuclear industry. The activity provides a cross-stakeholder forum to facilitate and coordinate the timely identification, development, and revision of standards for the design, operation, development, licensing, and deployment of nuclear power plants. Standards for other nuclear technologies, including advanced reactor concepts, will also be addressed.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD. Topics to be covered include:

Final Discussion and Approval of the NESCC Charter, led by Ambler Thompson, Ph.D., of NIST and Fran Schrotter of ANSI

NRC's Use of Consensus Standards, led by Michael Case of the Office of Regulatory Research, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Update of NRC Regulatory Guide 1.69, "Concrete Radiation Shields and Generic Shield Testing for Nuclear Power Plants," a Case Study, led by Chiara Ferraris of the NIST Materials and Construction Research Division

EPRI Advanced Nuclear Technology (ANT) Program, "Achieving New Nuclear Virtual Power Plant Configuration Management," led by Ken Barry of EPRI and Russell Adams of Dominion

ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel, Lessons Learned, led by Gordon Gillerman of the NIST Standards Services Division

There will also be several hours dedicated to task group discussions.

All stakeholders are invited to participate, including standards developing organizations (SDOs), consortia and other forums, industry, government, and consumers. The event is free of charge, and attendance via teleconference will be available. Advance registration is required for both in-person and teleconference participants.
