ANSI and NIST to Form Collaborative on Coordinating Standards for Nuclear Energy

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) have announced the formation of the Nuclear Energy Standards Coordination Collaborative (NESCC), a joint initiative to identify and respond to the current needs of the nuclear industry.
The new activity will provide a cross-stakeholder forum to facilitate and coordinate the timely identification, development, and revision of standards for the design, operation, development, licensing, and deployment of nuclear power plants. Standards for other nuclear technologies, including advanced reactor concepts, will also be addressed.
Participation in NESCC is open to all stakeholders that represent standards developing organizations, consortia and other forums, industry, government and consumers.
The first NESCC meeting will be held on June 1, 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD. The event is free of charge, and attendance via teleconference will be available.
