Andes Coil Processors Adds Rail Service
GARY, Indiana – Andes Coil Processors LLC announced that its Gary, Ind., toll processing facility is now able to accept railcars via Norfolk Southern Railroad to and from the Andes’ facility in the Great Lakes Industrial Complex (GLIC). The routing location within the Norfolk Southern system is the Burns Harbor, Ind., Station.
Andes Coil Midwest’s addition of rail service to the existing distribution services previously fulfilled by four (4) tractor/trailers adds to its full-service processing, warehousing and distribution solutions. A 4000TM TrackMobile railcar mover is on-site to allow ease of car movement within the complex and to the facility’s warehouse.
“Andes Coil Processors has had a growing demand for rail service and, therefore, this addition allows us to better service our customers, giving them an additional option of transportation to our location,” said Lori Melvin, General Manager of the Andes’ Midwest facility. “The market is showing an increased interest in the value of localized processing and logistic services. Customers are always looking for ways to cut costs, and we are happy to provide those opportunities for them.”

This is another substantial move by Andes as the company recently increased its slitting capability at both of its Lewisville, TX and Gary, Ind., facilities in 2014 and 2015, respectively. As a steel coil toll processor, Andes does not own steel but rather provides processing and logistical services to its customers.
