American Water Receives Approval for Acquisition


Pelican Island Joins New Jersey American Water

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Oct. 17 -- American Water today announced the completion of the Pelican Island water system acquisition by its New Jersey subsidiary. The Pelican Island water system's service area, located within the borders of Dover and Berkeley Townships on Barnegat Bay near Seaside Heights in Ocean County, includes approximately 100 customers on the island and now completes the acquisition of the water system service areas located in the Dover and Berkeley Township sections of Pelican Island. The acquisition, which will increase the company's customer base in Ocean County, was approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) on September 19, 2007.

"Pelican Island residents who meet the program criteria will now be eligible to participate in New Jersey American Water's H2O Help to Others and Low Income Payment Plan customer assistance programs.
