Altair and FIC Introduce World's First 3.5GHz LTE Tablet

LTE-enabled 9.7" Tablet Showcased at Tokyo LTE Event

TOKYO — Altair Semiconductor, the world's leading developer of high-performance, single-mode LTE chipsets, and First International Computer, Inc. (FIC), a world leader in the design and production of electronic devices, announced today the availability of the world's first 3.5GHz LTE-enabled tablet computer. The 9.7" Android tablet, Elija TF9300, will be showcased at a 3.5GHz LTE industry event taking place in Tokyo on June 17-20, 2014.

As spectrum availability is becoming more limited globally, the 3.5GHz 4G LTE band is receiving increased attention. 3GPP defines 200MHz of contiguous TDD spectrum in the 3.5GHz band, offering a significantly higher number of deployable LTE channels than any other band.

"The 3.5GHz spectrum represents a high growth area," said Alex Dee, Vice President at FIC. "We partnered with Altair Semiconductor for this industry-first tablet because Altair is one of the leading providers of 3.5GHz solutions for commercial products, and has the most advanced and mature LTE chipset and software on the market."

The tablet connects to LTE networks using Altair's newest single-mode LTE chipset, FourGee-3800/6300, which supports a very wide frequency band span between 700-3800MHz.

"To date, we've only seen 3.5GHz enabled products such as desktop modems and dongles," added Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Altair. "We are pleased to announce, together with our partner FIC, the first-ever 3.5GHz tablet, which marks the mainstreaming of this emerging LTE band."

Elija TF9300 is a quad-core tablet equipped with a 9.7-inch IPS panel for ultra wide degree viewing angle, full 1080p video playback, 3.5GHz 4G LTE connectivity and USB OTG (on-the-go). It is powered by a Freescale Quad-Core 1.0 GHz processer, has 16GB of storage and an Android 4.3 OS.
