Alpha Source, Inc. Donates $2,500 to AAMI Foundation's Scholarship Fund
Milwaukee, Wisc. — Alpha Source, Inc., a global medical equipment parts distributor, announced it donated $2,500 to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Foundation’s Scholarship Fund. AAMI established its scholarship program in 2009 in order to provide scholarships for students seeking careers as biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers. With this year’s donation, Alpha Source joined the “President’s Circle”, an exclusive group of companies and individuals who have contributed $5,000 or more over the life of the scholarship program.
“The financial support from Alpha Source is incredibly generous,” said Steve Campbell, AAMI’s chief marketing and communications officer. “The donation will help provide scholarships to qualified students entering the profession to become biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers. There is an urgent need to train the future leaders today. The profession is facing a significant shortage of qualified biomedical equipment technicians and clinical engineers, because of increasing demands in hospitals.”
Norine Carlson-Weber, president of Alpha Source, added, “Biomedical technicians and clinical engineers are vital to any healthcare facility and they play a critical role in saving lives. As the healthcare market continuously changes, we need to encourage and support education in this field.”
Each year, two $2,500 scholarships are awarded to students who excel academically and demonstrate a commitment to the healthcare technology management field. The scholarship winners will be announced later this year in AAMI publications and on AAMI’s Website.
Donations throughout the years from Alpha Source, along with other companies and individuals, have helped the AAMI Foundation move closer to achieving its goal of raising $500,000.
The AAMI Foundation’s primary mission is to serve public welfare and improve patient safety by fostering support and recognition for the advancement of medical technology management. It does this through recognition awards for excellence, scholarships, global outreach, and the Healthcare Technology Safety Institute.
