Allion Strengthens High-Speed Serial Data Test Bench with Tektronix SATA II Validation Test Solution

Leading IT Testing Organization Selects Tektronix for SATA II Compliance Tests

BEAVERTON, Ore., Aug. 29 / -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that Allion Test Labs Inc., a leading IT testing organization headquartered in Taiwan, has selected the Tektronix Serial ATA II (SATA II) validation test solution consisting of high performance real-time oscilloscopes and arbitrary waveform generators for SATA II compliance testing. This new Tektronix high-speed serial test bench will allow Allion to perform the most demanding compliance test assignments with the highest levels of accuracy, efficiency and reliability.

A leading test service supplier in the Pacific region, Allion is one of the first official Serial ATA standard test labs authorized by SATA-IO. In recent years, the development of technology has led to a significant increase in the number of compliance test assignments that involve advanced serial data standards such as SATA, HDMI and PCI-Express. Consequently, the growing complexity of testing and time-to-market pressure for delivering new products necessitates a more powerful compliance testing platform. For its expanding measurement needs, Allion selected the new Tektronix AWG7012 arbitrary waveform generator -- the fastest waveform generator in the world -- and the 15 GHz TDS6154C -- an ultra-high performance real-time oscilloscope designed to capture the fifth harmonic of the highest frequency pattern for next- generation serial standards up to 6 Gb/s such as PCI-Express 2.0, SAS, and SATA III. Allion also uses 20 GHz DPO72004 -- the highest performance real- time oscilloscope in the world, to perform standards compliance tests.

"Allion has been using Tektronix testing tools for many years. These tools have played a key role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of our compliance testing and have helped us to stay in the forefront with advances in the technology industry," said James Ou, Director of Allion Test Labs. "New high-speed serial data technologies are re-shaping our digital world. The combination of the 15 GHz TDS6154C oscilloscope and AWG7102 signal generator provides us with a complete SATA II validation test solution to easily manage the complexity of high-speed serial design compliance testing. With this test bench, we are well positioned to assist our clients and significantly reduce their time to market."

Prior to this purchase, Tektronix instruments such as TDS6804B oscilloscopes and AFG3000 signal sources were already an integral part of Allion's testing platform which enabled the lab to conduct compliance tests for thousands of IT products from manufacturers and designers across the region.

"We are pleased to extend our long standing partnership with Allion," said Jit Lim, Technology Solutions Group Director, Tektronix. "The rapid advance in many technology sectors, ranging from high-speed serial data design to digital RF is driving an increasing need for sophisticated testing facilities. Tektronix high performance test & measurement instruments and software enable our customers to extend their capabilities for the new digital world."
