Allied Vision Technologies Acquires VDS Vosskühler

The acquisition strengthens AVT's position as a globally leading producer of industrial cameras.

Stadtroda/ Osnabrück, Germany, January 26, 2011 - Allied Vision Technologies, market leader for digital industrial cameras with Gigabit Ethernet and FireWire interfaces, has acquired 100% of the shares of the camera producer VDS Vosskühler based in Osnabrück/ Germany. Effective immediately, the acquisition increases AVT's portfolio by the addition of Near Infrared (NIR) and Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) camera technologies, as well as extensive competencies in the area of active camera cooling. The acquisition further strengthens the overall market position in the area of industrial cameras.

Expansion in the non-visible light camera segment

Incorporated in 1985, VDS Vosskühler is specializing in the market segment outside of the visible light in the Near Infrared (0.9-1.7µm) and Long Wave Infrared/ Thermography (8-14µm) spectrum. The company develops, produces and markets industrial cameras in the two mentioned areas outside the visible spectrum as well as a wide portfolio of CCD cameras for visible light. Herein, VDS concentrates in customer-specific variations for OEM customers. Through the acquisition, Allied Vision Technologies - a 100% affiliate of the technology company AUGUSTA Technologie AG (ISIN DE000A0D6612) - gains immediate access to these increasingly important technologies and increases its customer base substantially.

Due to the attractiveness of cameras for the infrared spectrum, the next growth step was pending for VDS Vosskühler, including the extensive expansion of the sales organization. To achieve this objective, Jürgen Vosskühler, founder and owner of VDS Vosskühler, was looking for a strong partner. Allied Vision Technologies is widely represented in America, Asia and Europe. In addition, the infrared products of VDS are a complementary expansion of AVT's product portfolio. Thus the combination displays a win-win situation for both companies.

On his own request, Jürgen Vosskühler hands over the position as CEO to Frank Grube, CEO of Allied Vision Technologies. Jürgen Vosskühler will continue to support and advise the company, especially during the integration phase.

Perfect fit

"We have been following the NIR and the LWIR markets for a long time already and see large growth potential. With VDS Vosskühler we found a perfect fit - a company which focuses on OEM customers and their specialized requirements and needs for customizations. This very close contact to the customers combined with a strong technological expertise and a very high flexibility in production were the assets that founded the success also of AVT. Now we are extending our product portfolio into the non-visible spectrum of infrared and can offer our customers this type of camera in the same high product quality as our other cameras" comments Frank Grube, CEO of Allied Vision Technologies, the acquisition.

"We are happy to have found a strong partner for the further growth of our business" says Jürgen Vosskühler, founder and owner of VDS Vosskühler. "We not only have access to a technically experienced global sales organization but also we will work closely together when developing new products. Our technological competencies match extremely well." Frank Grube is convinced of the success of the acquisition: "The road to continued above-average growth is now paved, a similar way as we successfully showed after the acquisition and successful integration of the Canadian camera producer Prosilica more than two years ago. More technologically leading product developments of infrared cameras and the ramp up of the business in this growth market can be expected."
