Algerian Power Plant to Feature GE's Latest F-Class Technology

Project Will Add 1,227 Megawatts to Support Growth in the Region

ORLANDO, FLORIDA - November 28, 2006 - GE Energy will supply its latest F-class technology for a new, combined-cycle plant in Algeria that will add 1,227 megawatts of capacity to the country's power grid.

GE will provide three 109FB single-shaft, combined-cycle systems to SNC-Lavalin Constructors International, a Canadian-based firm that is building and also will operate the new facility. The plant is located in Hadjret En-Nouss, Wilaya of Tipaza, Algeria.

Sharikat Kahraba Hadjret En-Nouss (SKH) will own the plant. SKH is owned 49 percent by Sonatrach, Sonelgaz and AEC; and 51 percent by Algerian Utilities International Limited, a joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Mubadala from the United Arab Emirates.

In addition to supplying the three combined-cycle systems, GE will provide technical assistance, training and performance testing. Under a contractual service agreement, GE also will provide 20 years of maintenance support for the new plant.

Designed to be among the world's most advanced air-cooled gas turbines, the Frame 9FB is the latest evolutionary step in GE's F-class technology, which has surpassed 18 million fired hours worldwide.

The three GE 9FB gas turbines for the Algerian project will be operating on natural gas as the primary fuel with light distillate oil as the backup. They will be manufactured at GE's facilities in Greenville, S.C., while the type A-15 steam turbines and the type 450H generators will be manufactured at GE's plant in Schenectady, N.Y.

The equipment will be shipped during 2007, with Block 1 scheduled to enter commercial service in September of 2008, Block 2 in October of 2008 and Block 3 in November of 2008.

"The Hadjret En-Nouss project is the latest example of how GE technology can help Algeria meet its rapidly growing power needs," said John Reinker, general manager of heavy duty gas turbine & combined-cycle products for GE Energy. "This order follows an earlier project, where we supplied our FA technology for an 800-megawatt power plant in the Algerian coastal city of Skikda." That plant began commercial service in October of 2005.
