Alcoa Announces Winners of 2010 Core Truckload Carrier Awards

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced the winners of its 2010 Core Truckload Carrier Awards Program. This program has been in place since 2005 and is designed to reward Alcoa's core truckload carriers for their valuable service to the company's North American operations.

Alcoa's Tier 1 core truckload carriers received a rendition of the Alcoa aluminum wheel mounted on a plaque. Further recognition was given to the best-in-class in this group. These three carriers received larger Alcoa aluminum wheel trophies mounted on pedestals. TMC Transportation of Des Moines, Iowa, was honored for a third time for exemplary flatbed service. Remorquage St-Michel, Inc. of St-Michel, Canada, won the Canadian carrier of the year award for a fourth straight year by delivering value-added truckload service between the U.S. and Canada and within the provinces. Covenant Transport of Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the tightest race ever in the dry van category, ultimately prevailed for an amazing fifth win in a row. CMI Freight-Trans, of Chicago, Illinois, was again awarded as Alcoa's leading intermodal distribution company that continues to grow their business by providing innovative solutions to reduce Alcoa's transportation costs. These 14 carriers handled approximately 50% of Alcoa's truckload freight in 2010.

Also recognized with awards were the 2010 leaders in Alcoa's inaugural Tier 2 core carrier group. Loudon County Trucking of Loudon, Tennessee, won the flat bed competition and Oberg Freight Company, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa was best in the dry van category.

Tim Reyes, President of Alcoa Materials Management, said, "These awards are an important recognition of the service provided by our top carriers in North America. The criteria that we apply in selecting our top carriers ensure that we form a partnership that rewards both companies."

Ed Hamorsky, Director of Logistics and Transportation added, "Our transportation business model has been severely tested these past two years, but it has proven to be sustainable even during these recent poor economic periods. Crisis will provide opportunity. Hence, we work hard with our Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers in a partnership to leverage these opportunities and seek creative solutions that will help support the financial health of both companies, without sacrificing our values in safety and quality. This program continues to deliver enormous value to all stakeholders."

During the awards dinner, Michael Baird, National Sales Manager for Alcoa's Wheel and Transportation Products, presented information to the carriers on Alcoa's leading edge transportation products.

The award selection criteria includes measuring carrier network volume and system performance.

In addition, specific qualifications are required to participate as an Alcoa Truckload Core Carrier. These include meeting Alcoa business performance expectations such as pickup, delivery and safety; reconcile loss & damage claims and transmit advance shipping notification.
