Albina Co., Inc. 2014 AISC IDEA Award Winner


Sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction, the IDEAS2 program recognizes projects where structural steel has been utilized in an innovative manner. The innovative use of structural steel may be in:



• the accomplishment of the building's program

• the expression of architectural intent

• the application of innovative design approaches to the structural system

• the utilization of productivity enhancing construction methods



Awards are made to the project recognizing and awarding all members of the project's team involved with the structural framing system: architectural firm, structural engineering firm of record, general contractor, detailer, fabricator, erector, bender/roller, as well as the project owner. In order to be eligible for the award, a significant portion of the framing system of the project must be wide-flange or hollow structural steel sections.



Albina Pipe Bending (DBA: Albina Co., Inc.) was the specified bender/roller on two of the 2014 award winning projects:



a) National Award Winning Project  (Greater than $75 Million) Newport Beach Civic Center and Park, Newport Beach, California

b) National Award Winning Project (Less than $15 Million) San Diego Main Public Library Dome San Diego, California



“A prominent structure in the San Diego skyline, this is a monument to steel as a building material, providing both aesthetic and functional benefits to the many patrons of this iconic library” –Chad Clinehens
