ACGIH® Presents Incorporating Lean Six Sigma into Occupational Health and Safety Webinar
Cincinnati, Ohio - - ACGIH® will present Incorporating Lean Six Sigma into Occupational Health and Safety on March 1, 2011 at the following times:
2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time)
1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Central Time)
12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Mountain Time)
11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Pacific Time)
Lean Six Sigma has quickly grown in popularity as an improvement initiative over the past 15 years. Businesses are using it to achieve significant improvements in operating efficiencies and profitability. Though very different from each other, the strategies used in Lean and Six Sigma provide complementary tools for achieving these results. Implementation strategies and use differ widely among industries and even within companies. This seminar will help identify applicability to Health and Safety topics and environments based on audience input.
After participating in this webinar, attendees will be able to:
o Obtain a better understanding of Lean Thinking and Six Sigma as separate initiatives.
o Discover how Lean and Six Sigma work together seamlessly.
o Understand how Lean Six Sigma supports and/or supplements current improvement initiatives.
o Describe the achievement levels in Lean Six Sigma (i.e., Blackbelt, Greenbelt, etc).
o Learn the DMAIC problem solving methodology.
o Learn how to evaluate your environment for opportunities to use these tools.
o Identify which tools will be the most effective based on the type of issue you are trying to solve.

Dr. David I. Douphrate and Maria Fry will present this webinar.
Dr. David I. Douphrate is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas, School of Public Health. He earned his PhD in Environmental Health with an emphasis in occupational ergonomics and safety from Colorado State University. Dr. Douphrate also holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He earned his BS degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University. Dr. Douphrate has been a physical therapist for more than 15 years specializing in the treatment of occupational illnesses and injuries. Over the past 10 years, his work has focused on the prevention of occupational injuries through ergonomics. He has been a consultant in ergonomics for numerous companies in the United States. By incorporating ergonomic principles in quality management initiatives, he has worked successfully with many companies throughout the U.S. to reduce injuries, increase efficiency and improve quality of products and services. Dr. Douphrate is an OSHA General Industry Outreach Trainer, and was trained and certified as a Six Sigma Yellow Belt. He is currently pursuing more advanced training and certification in Lean Six Sigma quality management.
Maria Fry is the owner of Strategic Quality Solutions, LLC, and gained her experience in manufacturing, technology, and business processes through 15 years of service in a variety of industries. She was trained and certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt by General Electric Aircraft Engines in 1997. Ms. Fry has led deployment activities and trained Senior Executives, Champions, and all levels of Belts (Black, Green, & Yellow). She has successfully used and taught Lean Six Sigma techniques in a variety of fields from computer, aircraft engine and automotive part manufacturing to client services, financial processes, business risk services and agricultural operations. Ms. Fry has spent the past five years working with Lenovo, a global manufacturer of personal computers. She earned her BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, and her Master's degree in Business Administration from Cleveland State University, Cleveland, OH.
This webinar is pending approval by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) for .42 ABIH (IH) Certification Maintenance (CM) Point. This webinar qualifies for .15 BCSP (SP) Continuance of Certification (COC) Point for Certified Safety Professionals. Participants seeking confirmation of attendance for the webinar from ACGIH® must attend the live webinar or view the archive and submit a final exam and evaluation. Certificates of Completion will be issued in a timely manner after receipt and completion of these items.
