ABB Wins $60 Million Oil and Gas Order in Norway


Integrated automation and electrical solutions to increase offshore productivity and energy efficiency

Zurich, Switzerland,- ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won an order worth more than $60 million from Hyundai Heavy Industries to provide an array of power and automation technologies for an offshore production platform at the Goliat oil and gas field off the northern coast of Norway. The scope of supply includes comprehensive electrical and automation systems integrated on the common System 800xA platform.

The field is being developed and operated by Eni Norway. A floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), which is currently under construction in South Korea, will be equipped with a complete package of electrical, automation, instrumentation and telecommunications products and systems from ABB.

"As one of the most important recent developments on the Norwegian continental shelf, the Goliat project will have access to the most modern technology available, as well as ABB's long experience in oil and gas operations in the region."

ABB has more than 50 years of experience with oil and gas projects all over the world, as well as a strong local presence in northern Norway, where the company supports important developments such as the Snøhvit natural gas project.

Goliat is scheduled to start producing oil in 2013. Gas from the field will be reinjected into the oil and gas reservoirs to improve recovery rates or transported to the Snøhvit liquefied natural gas plant. The Goliat field is expected to be in production for 15 to 20 years.
