ABB Highlights Wind Farm Technology Breakthroughs at AWEA WINDPOWER 2015

Orlando, Florida - ABB, the wind industry’s leading technology solutions provider, is unveiling new wind farm applications and best practices at AWEA WINDPOWER 2015 this week.
Building off a half-day, pre-show technical training session on Monday afternoon entitled, “ABB Wind Farm Best Practices Series: Optimizing Your Wind Farm’s Output While Improving Forecasting Capabilities,” in conjunction with the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), ABB will demonstrate how new wind generation technologies beyond the turbine – including maintenance, controls systems, analytics and substations - can improve decision making.
“ABB has partnered with AWEA and the AWEA WINDPOWER event for many years now, and we’re pleased to again play a major role in this industry gathering,” said Dennis McKinley, director of wind power solutions in North America for ABB. “This year we’re demonstrating for wind developers and operators what is now possible and proven for making operational decisions that ensure bankability, accurate forecasts and reliable grid connections.”
ABB will have experts in the booth to showcase a digital array of new technologies around the total wind solution and grid interconnection, such as managing reactive power to meet grid codes, and the latest in Statcom, microgrids and energy storage. ABB will also offer a full line of low voltage components (including the new EMAX breaker), high voltage capacitor banks, switchgear, transformers and wind turbine converter solutions for wind farms of all sizes, as well as enterprise software for accurately forecasting wind patterns and collecting data. Symphony Plus for Wind – Apart from integration of all plant assets into a single management platform for simplified fleet management and energy trading, this new release adds diagnostics capabilities for the entire generation fleet through dedicated applications. With integration of diagnostics in Power Management and forecasting functions, a user can streamline power production optimization and forecasting for reliable generation and improve operations and maintenance across the fleet. Symphony Plus for Wind easily integrates new plants into the system.
ABB Low Voltage Products – ABB’s Low Voltage Products business, along with Thomas Betts, will be offering a full line of wind turbine converter protection products and wind farm connection products, including new technology in circuit breaker and lightning protection solutions. In addition they will feature smart components in grid tie technology and IEC 61850 code compliance.
AWEA WINDPOWER 2015, the wind industry’s premiere conference and exhibition in North America, will run from May 18-21, and ABB will be exhibiting in booth #2622.
