AASHTO President Lewis Outlines His Top Priorities in New Video
WASHINGTON -- What should be done to preserve and modernize America's aging transportation system? Michael Lewis, president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, addresses that question and other pressing issues in a new video on Transportation TV.
Since his election late last year, President Lewis has made the deployment of new technologies, the implementation of reforms included in the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), and leading AASHTO's effort to pass the next surface transportation reauthorization bill his top three administrative priorities.
"I don't think we can be shy about articulating the need for greater Federal investment in transportation infrastructure," said Lewis. "But at the same time we also need to look at the resources we have and decide the best way to utilize them so that we can show to the American people, we are good stewards of the public trust."
