Obama's 2012 Budget: AASHTO Ready to Work with Administration and Congress on Long-term Transportation Program

WASHINGTON -- The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials today expressed appreciation to President Obama for recognizing the need for significant investment levels for surface transportation in his FY 2012 budget proposal.

The Administration's blueprint for government spending includes a six-year $556 billion program that would principally fund surface transportation programs including highways, transit, high-speed rail and aviation.

The proposed six-year surface transportation reauthorization framework included in the President's budget is designed to modernize our transportation systems, create jobs, support the economy and improve our freedom of mobility.

The President's six- year plan includes a $50 billion upfront investment in highways, transit, high-speed rail and aviation programs. It also sets aside $30 billion to establish a national infrastructure bank to provide loans, loan guarantees and grants for projects of national and regional significance.

AASHTO is ready to work with members of Congress and the Administration to approve necessary reforms and to set sensible funding levels.
