The AAMA has released an update to the document, Voluntary Test Method and Specifications for Pressure Equalized Rain Screen Wall Cladding Systems. According to John Lewis, AAMA Technical Standards Manager, Section 6.1 has been restructured, with steps for recording water that contacts the air/water barrier inserted. Updates also include changes to Section 5.2.1, addition of Sections 7.1 and 7.2, and move of Section 7.0 to Section 8.0.

AAMA Updates Document Addressing Rain Screens



SCHAUMBURG, IL - AAMA 508-07, a technical specification covering performance and test methods for rain screens, has been released by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). According to John Lewis, AAMA Technical Standards Manager, the revamped 13-page document, first published in 2005 and titled Voluntary Test Method and Specifications for Pressure Equalized Rain Screen Wall Cladding Systems, includes several updates.

"The most significant changes were to Section 6.1, which was completely restructured, including the removal of 'no water shall penetrate through the air/water barrier' and the insertion of steps for recording water that contacts the air/water barrier," according to Lewis.

Other updates were made to the section on "Referenced Documents;" Section 5.2.1 referencing that observations shall be recorded instead of measurements taken; the addition of new Sections 7.1 and 7.2; and Section 7.0 was moved to Section 8.0.

The Voluntary Test Method and Specifications for Pressure Equalized Rain Screen Wall Cladding Systems is available through download, CD or paper copy at a cost of $9.00 for non-members and $4.50 for members.
