Aluminum Association and Metal Powder Industries Federation Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Workplace Safety



ARLINGTON, VA.,  — Today, the Aluminum Association (AAI) and the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the sharing of information in area of metal powder safety. The organizations will cooperate to increase awareness of metal dust hazards and to promote safety in plant operations.



The memorandum was signed by Aluminum Association President Heidi Brock and Metal Powder Industries Federation Vice President for Member and Industry Relations James Dale during the Council of Manufacturing Associations Winter Leadership Conference.

“This is a great opportunity for the aluminum industry to continue to show its commitment to workplace safety,” said Aluminum Association President Heidi Brock. “By formalizing our relationship with MPIF, our member companies will be better informed on issues related to metal powder and dust.”



Specifically, the MOU calls for:

• The powder producing members of both AAI and MPIF will support one another where appropriate and when feasible, by participating in regional workshops and meetings concerning dust hazards and promotion of safety in plant operations.

• The two associations will share information on dust hazards, best practices and provide updates on publications, standards or any other pertinent activity of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Chemical Safety Board (CSB).

• The AAI, having representation on the NFPA 484 Technical Committee, is willing to address MPIF concerns, upon request and where feasible.
