3M Shares New Products and Safety Best Practices at NSC Congress & Expo

Experts on hand for new product demos and professional development sessions

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Working to create a safer world for workers, 3M has strengthened its core personal protective equipment (PPE) and expanded its safety services offerings in time for the annual National Safety Council (NSC) Congress and Expo. 3M (Booth 2319), along with recently acquired Capital Safety (Booth 2439), will showcase the latest industry developments and best practices at the world's largest annual event for safety, health and environmental professionals in Atlanta, Georgia, from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2. The new products and services on display include:

Speedglas™ Auto-Darkening Filter Kit 9100XXi from 3M – To give welders superior visibility in both dark and light states, 3M has introduced the Speedglas auto-darkening filter (ADF) kit 9100XXi. The next-generation optics in the 9100XXi ADF kit provide more detail, contrast and natural-looking color to give welders greater precision and an overall improved welding experience.

3M™ Organic Vapor Service Life Indicator Cartridges 6000i Series – 3M has launched a new line of organic vapor respirator cartridges with 3M service life indicator technology, an end-of-service-life indicator (ESLI) that, when used in appropriate environments, visually shows when users should change cartridges. The 3M service life indicator can be used to complement a company’s current respirator cartridge change schedule, and in some cases replace it.

Safety Eyewear With Scotchgard™ Anti-Fog Coating Technology from 3M – 3M has added its innovative Scotchgard anti-fog coating technology to two new safety eyewear models. The Solus™ 1000 Series Safety Eyewear and Goggle Gear 500 Series splash goggle now feature an anti-fog coating to help keep workers in construction, oil and gas, and metal working seeing more clearly on the job.

PELTOR™ MT Series Intrinsically Safe Two-Way Communication Headset from 3M – This new headset is designed for workers who need reliable communication while working in volatile, high-noise environments. In addition to providing clear, two-way communication via a noise-cancelling microphone, the headsets offer excellent noise reduction and comfort. Special headset design helps reduce the risk of sparks and explosions.

3M™ Protective Coverall 4570 –The new 3M™ protective coverall 4570 helps protect wearers from chemical jet sprays .The new coverall meets the Type 3 garment classification, specific to chemical jets and sprays, with a higher level of chemical holdout than other 3M coveralls. The 4570 coverall features sealed seams, durable laminate fabric, and a double front zipper.

In addition to these introductions, 3M will preview Active Safety, a PPE management system designed to help safety professionals reduce time spent on paperwork, documentation and compliance tasks. Active Safety uses radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags and cloud-based software that runs on both mobile and desktop devices. To deploy Active Safety, safety professionals add each piece of PPE onto the platform.  An RFID tag is attached to each piece of PPE, and a user scans that RFID tag with a mobile device to record PPE history, usage, location and upcoming events such as worker inspections and fit testing. Safety professionals can access data from their PPE program on a simple dashboard. By gathering PPE data from across a facility or multiple sites, Active Safety allows safety professionals to connect with their employees and focus on improving safety, rather than completing paperwork.

Also on hand will be the company’s new mobile training center, the 3M Safety Roadshow. The 48-foot specially equipped tractor trailer is equipped with 3M PPE and will be the location for 18 professional development sessions at the show.

3M offers a comprehensive, diverse portfolio of PPE solutions providing respiratory protection, hearing protection, fall protection, reflective materials for high-visibility apparel, protective clothing, protective eyewear, head and face protection, welding helmets, and other adjacent products and solutions, such as detection, monitoring equipment, and active communications equipment.
