20 Years of Trouble-Free Pump Operation for Boca Raton

Replacement Pump Installed In 3 Weeks

Pompano Beach, Florida --- February 4, 2010 --- When Ramy Maharaj, MBA CPMM, Manager of the City of Boca Raton, Florida's, Utility Services Department needed to replace a 20-year old FPI Pump, he went straight to the source. One of the city's storm water drainage pumps needed to be replaced after faithfully serving for more than two decades with little more than routine lubrication. Located in a drainage canal along Florida's Turnpike, the unit provides critical flood protection to a very valuable residential area.

The day Mr. Maharaj called FPI, Tim Owens, FPI General Manager swung into action, inspecting the old unit, determining a replacement was indicated and providing him with a complete proposal, and a commitment to get this important piece of infrastructure replaced on an expedited basis.

The pump, a 30" Discharge Axial Flow Propeller Pump, designed to lift 25,000GPM of water into one of the regional water management district's outfall canals, is powered by a 75HP electric motor. The critical importance to this pump can not be overstated. As an integral part of the larger system of many pumps serving Boca Raton, rapid replacement was of the essence.

Ultimately, the new unit was fabricated at the FPI manufacturing plant, then delivered, installed, started-up and field tested by FPI's Field Service Group, three weeks after the initial call. Pumps of this magnitude are normally much longer lead-time, but Mr. Owens is confident of FPI's ability to meet customer's rush needs again in the future. By adjusting the shop's workload schedule slightly, the City of Boca Raton's emergency needs were met, and all other projects in process in FPI's shop at the time had no extension to their delivery schedules.

Mr. Maharaj was elated with the outcome of this pump replacement. He stated, "This is one of the best, if not the most successful projects completed at the Utility Services Department. FPI's work and timely delivery exceeded our expectations." When filling out the ISO 9001 Customer Feedback Form which FPI utilizes in their quality assurance program, he wrote that the company should "Continue to deliver the same quality of excellent service and professional work to your customers that was received by the City of Boca Raton."

To Tim Owens, stepping up to serve customer's needs in a pinch has been a hallmark of FPI's business model since the company's founding in 1937. FPI still manufactures World-Class Quality Axial Flow Propeller Pumps at the original location, with the same old-fashioned dedication to serving customer's high flow pump needs, as it always has.

FPI is a leading manufacturer of Axial Flow Propeller Pumps for High Flow/Low Head applications in Irrigation, Storm Water/Flood Control, Aquaculture, Municipal Water Plants, Cooling Towers and Industrial Plants. The company has been at the same location in Pompano Beach, Florida, since 1937.
