Unprecedented Power for Automated Branding and Graphics

At IBC2007 Pixel Power is launching Pixel Promo DJ, a software application which manages a network of Clarity graphics devices to create a highly automated, multi-channel branding solution. Pixel Promo has already been selected by Red Bee Media for BBC World, a six-channel service delivered from London.

Pixel Promo DJ runs on a Microsoft Windows Server with a SQL database. It collects all the information required to build graphics sequences, including promos for forthcoming programmes, future schedule information, stock market and financial data, weather reports, news headlines and sports scores. It uses this data to build complete graphics sequences on the Clarity character generators attached to it. These sequences can include live video, with DVE moves, and separate voiceover tracks.

What makes Pixel Promo uniquely powerful is the intelligence built into it. Based on rules defined by the user in advance, it will create appropriate graphics sequences for each programme junction, ensuring that branding is highly flexible, relevant to the programmes around it, and not repetitive. It also minimises the overhead on the scheduling and station automation systems, as it only needs a single command for a sequence and the target length: specific sequences do not need to be scheduled, tracked and triggered.

"In the multi-channel world, branding is absolutely vital," said James Gilbert, managing director of Pixel Promo. "With budgets tightening everywhere, no channel can afford to make a large number of trailers and branding sequences. On the other hand, audiences get very irritated by the same sequences in every junction. What Pixel Promo does is create a new sequence for every junction, fully automatically, and makes sure it is relevant, interesting and creative."

Pixel Power is a leader in the development and production of SD and HD broadcast graphics systems, news production workflow tools and live interactive content with more than 2,000 installations worldwide. With a local presence around the world the company's award-winning solutions suit broadcasters, post-production houses and outside broadcast (OB) trucks of all sizes for distinctive, professional, reliable and cost-effective on-air graphics.

Established in Cambridge, UK, in 1987, the company also has a wholly owned subsidiary office in the USA, and a dedicated network of distributors and support offices around the world.
