Hart is an aerospace engineer, attorney, and licensed pilot with commercial, multi-engine and instrument ratings.

BIO urged MA Department of Energy Resources to accept applications for qualifying advanced biofuels from biofuel producers using all sources of renewable biomass, which have been shown to considerably reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Established in 1963, award is given annually to graduating student of Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and Lehigh University for outstanding performance in metallurgical engineering or materials aspects. During her academic career, Kodama has also received Lehigh University Women's Club Engineering Award and the Harmer Prize.

Hybrid Electric Tractor to be tested at Long Beach port.

August 20, 2009 Plug-in hybrid electric terminal tractor, used to move shipping containers and cargo, will be tested over a period of 3 months at a Port of Long Beach shipping terminal. EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) is coordinating this effort, part of a 12-month project, which could lead to the replacement of diesel-powered tractors if successful. Overall, the goal is to subsequently reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and improve energy efficiency of port operations.
Standards protect homes from hurricane season.

August 20, 2009 Several standards developed by ASTM evaluate impact of wind-borne debris that may strike buildings as a result of strong storm winds. ASTM E1886-05 sets test method and ASTM E1996-09 provides specification for determining performance of windows, doors, and storm shutters. Developed by ISO Technical Committee 162, ISO 15821:2007 provides guidelines for testing building's ability to keep water out during heavy rain and strong winds.
USDA proposes voluntary biobased product labeling program.

August 20, 2009 USDA has published proposed rule that seeks to establish voluntary labeling program for biobased products. Program will allow product manufacturers and vendors to label product that meets certain designated requirements as "USDA Certified Biobased Product," promoting sale and use of biobased products in commercial sector. Biobased products are composed wholly or significantly of biological ingredients, including renewable plant, animal, marine, or forestry materials.
Moyer D. Thomas Award given to Mark E. Peden.

August 20, 2009 Mark E. Peden, senior professional scientist emeritus at the Illinois State Water Survey in Champaign, IL received the Moyer D. Thomas Award. ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality recognized Peden for outstanding achievements in standardization of sampling and analysis of atmospheres. Peden has been a member of ASTM International since 1983 and remains an active member of Committee D22, where he serves as vice chair of Subcommittee D22.01 on Quality Control.

Christensen of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Canada has been presented with the A01 Founding Committee Award for distinguished service to ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys in the development of international consensus standards for the steel industry. Christensen has participated on various A01 subcommittees and chaired numerous task groups. He also served as chair of Subcommittee A01.92 on Terminology for many years.

Laing Award, which is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to work of committee in developing standards for medical and surgical materials and devices. A member of ASTM International since 2001, Sidebottom serves as recording secretary of Committee F04 and works on U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO TC 150 on Implants for Surgery.
ATA projects drop in passengers during Labor Day.

August 19, 2009 According to ATA forecast, 16 million passengers will travel globally on U.S. airlines during 8-day 2009 Labor Day holiday period, spanning Sept 2-9. This is a decline of approximately 3.5% from 17 million passengers estimated to have traveled on U.S. airlines during same period last year. Deep global recession and unnaturally high and volatile energy prices are primary drivers of expected reduction in passenger volumes.

These organizations continually demonstrate a commitment to implementing RDP's environmental, health, safety, and security (EHS/S) requirements. RDP Verification is required once every 36 months.
