ANSI Report covers Standards for Sustainability workshop.

July 16, 2009 Organized by ANSI with support of EPA, Toward Product Standards for Sustainability workshop brought together experts and advocates to share insights and develop recommendations on standards and criteria for sustainable products. ANSI's report begins with overview of workshop and offers primer of U.S. standards and conformity assessment system. It then details discussions and findings of workshop, which centered on 3 focused panels, keynote address, and breakout sessions.

July 16, 2009 The InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) and the Canadian General Standards Board - Committee on Geomatics (CGSB-COG) have jointly published a regional profile of an International Standard on geographic information metadata. INCITS 453-2009, the North American Profile (NAP) of ISO 19115, Geographic information - Metadata, will facilitate the development, sharing, and use of geographical information and related applications.
U.S. Input sought for energy management draft standard.

July 16, 2009 Project Committee 242, established by ISO, has issued draft standard on energy management systems for review and comment. ISO 50001 will provide energy management systems guidelines for industrial plants, commercial facilities, and entire organizations. Document will be based on common elements found in all of ISO's management system standards, assuring compatibility with ISO 9001, Quality management systems, and ISO 14001, Environmental management systems.
TIA urges rejection of proposed Chinese tire import quotas.

July 16, 2009 In letter to President Obama, TIA urged rejection of U.S. International Trade Commission's finding concerning imposition of import duties on all passenger and light truck tires imported from China. TIA believes that proposed remedy would not protect U.S. manufacturing jobs, would create market disruption, and would result in higher prices and less options for consumers. If consumers do not have access to affordable tires, they may defer replacing tires, creating potential hazard.
AWWA to host chemical security webcast.

Congress is debating federal legislation that would extend chemical security requirements to water and wastewater utilities. Webcast will provide DHS's observations of lessons learned from implementation of current program, and drinking water experts will address concurrent challenge of maintaining Safe Drinking Water Act compliance.

California DOT received Innovative Management and On Time awards, while Oklahoma DOT won On Time and On Budget awards. Additional winners included Oregon for On Time, Nebraska for On Budget, Utah for Innovative Management, and Colorado for Innovative Management.

Andreas Tanzer, chair of F24.70, says the new standard compiles common terms, methods, and practices. It will also ensure end-users that there is a means of manufacturing, testing, and operation.

Site will be comprised of 34 x 1.5 MW GE turbines. According to Governor Bill Ritter, project will provide reliable energy, clean-energy jobs, and long-term economic benefits for Kit Carson County. Tri-State is supplier to 44 electric cooperatives and public power districts in 4 states.

July 14, 2009 Proposed changes designed to improve energy efficiency of buildings covered by ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1 are open for public comment. Some proposed addendum include bh, which would require supply air temperature reset in multiple-zone HVAC systems; bf, which provides new requirements for continuous air barriers; addendum f, which would allow number of paths to reduce building roof load; and bq, which reduces additional lighting power allowances.

During past 5 months, according to Horsley, $16.7 billion in projects have been approved for funding, creating thousands of jobs.
