Also, ASTM E2693 concerns prevention of dermatitis in wet metal removal fluid environments.

September 30, 2009 Interlaboratory Crosscheck Programs provide participants with statistical quality assurance tool, enabling laboratories to compare performance in use of ASTM methods against other laboratories worldwide. Each program recipient receives different samples, representative of the product line, for each test cycle; data report forms; and test instructions. Single determinations by each laboratory are required, as program does not allow reporting of averages of replicate determinations.

ASTM Standard addresses lead content in turf fibers.

September 30, 2009 ASTM F2765, Specification for Total Lead Content in Synthetic Turf Fibers, was developed to provide field owners/turf suppliers with procedure for measuring lead content in fibers. "Standard can be used to verify that fibers in synthetic turf do not contain intentionally added lead," said Phil Stricklen of Sportexe. Stricklen, also member of Committee F08, said potential users also include test laboratories that analyze synthetic turf fibers for total lead content.

September 30, 2009 Summer 2009 edition of Supply Chain Tracker shows that key industry segments in Q2 reflected slowing decline. North American Electronics Industry Performance Index of -29 shows flattening trend that may indicate industry has hit bottom. Dry film sales, registering at -23.9%, are slowly increasing, while sales in EMS industry have yet to see signs of recovery. Leading indicators improved, such as book-to-bill ratio for rigid PCBs, which at 1.08, means demand exceeds current supply.

It addresses requirements for blends of conventional aviation turbine fuel with synthesized hydrocarbon blend components, and defines types of aviation turbine fuel that may contain synthesized hydrocarbons for civil use in operation and certification of aircraft.

September 30, 2009 Air and Waste Management Association is seeking abstracts for the International Conference on Thermal Treatment Technologies and Hazardous Waste Combustors, which will take place May 17-20, 2010 in San Francisco, CA. Specifically, abstracts are being sought for presentations containing new information about the thermal treatment of radioactive, hazardous chemical, mixed, munitions, medical/pharmaceutical, municipal, and industrial wastes. Deadline is November 2, 2009.
NIST releases nanoruler with femtometer accuracy.

September 30, 2009 NIST has issued a ruler which is calibration standard for x-ray diffraction that measures angles with accuracy better than 1/3,600°. Unit is 25 mm˛ multilayer silicon chip that provides crystallographers with crystal sample for calibrating precision instruments. Spacing, tilt, and orientation crystal lattice values are traceable to SI units, so material provides absolute reference for high-precision calibrations.
NIST to cohost IT Security Automation Conference.

September 29, 2009 Papers are invited for symposium on "Static and Dynamic Spinal Implants: Are We Evaluating Them Appropriately?" Scheduled for Nov 16, 2010, event will provide forum to evaluate existing test methods for spinal implants in light of clinical experience and failure modes, and to discuss what new directions and standards are needed to address clinical failures through pre-clinical testing. Sessions will include static devices, dynamic devices, in vitro test methods, and suggested test methods.
ELFA Index shows decline in new business volume in August.

September 29, 2009 ELFA Monthly Leasing and Finance Index shows overall new business volume for August declined by 35.1%, compared to August 2008, and fell 22.9% from July. Reflecting volume of commercial equipment financed in U.S., it also indicates 2.5% increase in charge-offs from prior month, which rose by 115.5% compared to August 2008. Monthly Confidence Index for September dropped slightly to 53.8, but majority of participants believe business conditions will stabilize over next 4 months.

IPC releases PCB industry results for August 2009.

September 29, 2009 According to IPC's North American PCB Statistical Program, rigid PCB shipments declined 27.4% and bookings were down 13.0% in Aug 2009 from Aug 2008. Compared to previous month, rigid PCB shipments grew by 4.8% and rigid bookings increased 12.2%. Flexible circuit shipments in Aug 2009 went down 13.7% and bookings increased 7.5% compared to Aug 2008. Compared to previous month, flexible circuit shipments went up 2.1% and bookings increased 26.5%.
