November 5, 2009 In a statement made concerning the successful launch of the Ares 1-X rocket, Marion Blakey said the first human-rated launch system to be flight tested in nearly 30 years is an important milestone in the development of a new vehicle to take humans to space after the shuttle retires. She believed Americans will support the investment that the Review of U.S. Human Spaceflight Plans Committee says is necessary for America to explore beyond low-earth orbit.

The study of university technology licensing from 1996-2007 shows $187 billion dollar positive impact on U.S. GNP and $457 billion addition to gross industrial output. Passed in 1980, Bayh-Dole Act permits and encourages industry to partner with research universities to turn federally funded basic research into valuable products, and is critical in driving America's innovation economy.

Event encompassed nearly 40 technical meetings to review existing standards as well as new standards in development. A broad spectrum of issues ranging from restraint design to aquatic play elements and trains were addressed.

If living in area that receives considerable amount of snow, buying winter tires may be a wise investment. If driver hits exceptionally large or deep pothole, they should check tires immediately. Additionally, drivers should keep tires properly inflated and rotated, and keep rock salt or cat litter in trunk to help gain traction if they slide off road.
IDSP calls for national identity verification standard.

November 3, 2009 Identity Theft Prevention and IDSP released workshop report calling for development of American National Standard on identity verification to help combat terrorism and identity theft. Workshop and report were driven by vulnerabilities in issuance of foundational documents used to prove identity, in particular the birth certificate. Since agencies rely on but do not verify birth certificates and other source credentials, there is a loophole where identity theft and fraud can occur.

The 1987MY Buick® LeSabre® T-Type sports coupe produced by General Motors Corp used Noryl GTX® 910 resin, an MPPE/PA copolymer supplied by GE Plastics. Thermoplastic body panels have since been translated into fenders on other vehicles as well as tractors and lawnmowers for home and agricultural use.

AEM President stresses need for highway infrastructure bill.

November 2, 2009 Dennis Slater, President of AEM, says highway bill would provide money for infrastructure improvements in MN, where 76% of urban roadways are congested during peak travel times. Slater also says $65 billion will be needed over 20 yr for infrastructure, but MN DOT estimates just 15% will be available. With fully funded bill, support for construction projects, contractors, and thousands of jobs would be provided. Legislative deadline for bill is set for October 31.
World Aviation Authorities tackle climate change.

November 2, 2009 In recent meetings at the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal, FAA and worldwide counterparts led U.S. delegation resulting in agreement that will guide global aviation community as it tackles challenge of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Agreement strives for 2% annual fuel efficiency improvement between 2012 and 2050. In addition, ICAO identified measures for states to limit emissions and called for reporting on air transport traffic and fuel consumption.
