Public Listening Sessions address power plant carbon pollution.

November 5, 2013 U.S. EPA will hold 11 public listening sessions to solicit ideas and input from public and stakeholders about best Clean Air Act (CAA) approaches to reducing carbon pollution from existing power plants, which represent largest stationary source of carbon pollution in USA. Feedback from these sessions will help EPA develop smart, cost-effective guidelines that reflect latest and best information available. EPA will seek additional public input during notice and comment period.
AAMA AMC publishes aluminum sustainability white paper.

November 5, 2013 According to AAMA's Brent Slaton, release of "Aluminum: The Total Solution for Sustainable, Strong and Efficient Commercial Building Design" by Aluminum Material Council (AMC) of AAMA aims to encapsulate strategic advantages of incorporating aluminum extrusions into commercial fenestration products. Slaton cited such advantages to be energy efficiency, recyclability/sustainability, cost, freedom of design, strength to weight ratio, as well as available colors and finishes.
EPRI Receives Funding from DOE to support solar energy R&D.

November 5, 2013 EPRI will receive over $5 million in funding from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for projects that are part of SunShot Initiative, which represents collaborative, national effort to drive innovation to make solar energy cost-competitive with traditional energy sources by this decade's end. Awards in which EPRI is included are Solar Utility Networks: Replicable Innovations in Solar Energy (SUNRISE) award and Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment (GEARED) award.

His presentation, "Real Time Study of Whiskers/Hillock Formation in Sn-Cu Systems During Thermal Cycling," will provide information on systematic experiments conducted to confirm that stress from intermetallics causes tin whiskers to form.

Winners included Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department, Delta Faucet Company, Niagara Conservation Corp, The Home Depot, KB Home, Irrigation Association, and John Taylor of Taylor Irrigation Service, Inc. Two partners that received WaterSense Sustained Excellence awards in recognition of their continuous high level of support included Kohler Co. and Lowes, Inc.
EPA releases GHG emissions data from large facilities.

November 4, 2013 EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program collects annual GHG information from over 8,000 facilities in largest emitting industries. According to data, emissions from power plants have decreased 10% in the 2 years since reporting began, due to switch from coal to natural gas for electricity and slight decrease in electricity production. Fossil-fuel fired power plants remain largest source of emissions with just under 1,600 facilities emitting over 2 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2012.

Grace and Co. Committee cited Offenberg for outstanding contributions in development of standards and dissemination of knowledge related to pervious concrete and enhancement of cement and concrete technology standards. A member of ASTM since 2007, he currently chairs Subcommittee C09.49 on Pervious Concrete.

AMCA Announces Approval of Air Curtains as vestibule alternatives.

November 4, 2013 As announced by AMCA International, 2015 version of International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) will contain provision that enables air curtains to be considered as alternative to vestibules. Compliance requires air curtains to be tested in accordance with ANSI/AMCA Standard 220 and installed to manufacturer instructions. AMCA's Wade Smith expressed pride in efforts of AMCA Air Curtain Engineering Committee, Air Movement Code Action Review Committee, and Intercode Incorporated.

This software will let ESCO employees perform audits using mobile tablets, eliminating manual input and transfer. When audit is finished, it is stored electronically and serves as baseline for next audit. Also, concept3D's work was used to help develop and grow Building Component Library.

November 1, 2013 U.S. EPA announced $400,000 will go to help 6 communities expand their use of green infrastructure to reduce water pollution as well as boost resilience to impacts of climate change. Specific communities that will be receiving assistance include Providence, RI ($75,000); Detroit, MI ($65,000); Lincoln, NE ($65,000); Gary, IN ($65,000); Pima County, AZ ($65,000); and Spartanburg, SC ($65,000). Also, EPA released report analyzing economic benefits of green infrastructure in 13 locations.
