Standard also supports Government Performance Results Act and provides transparency to government information through websites like GPO's Federal Digital System.

December 28, 2009 HARTŪ Communication Foundation selected Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's ethylene plant in Kashima, Japan as recipient of 2009 HART Plant of the Year Award. Mitsubishi Chemical is using HART Communication capability of 800+ interoperable field devices, integrated with their DCS and asset management systems through multiplexers and HART-enabled I/Os, to access real-time continuous process variables and diagnostics. This resulted in operational savings of $20,000-$30,000 per day.

December 28, 2009 ZigBee Remote Control Profile replaces IR technology with RF standard for remote controls. Designed for use with ZigBee RF4CE specification, standard frees consumers from pointing remotes at devices and offers flexible control from nearby rooms and through wood and glass doors. It also enables 2-way communication between remote and device as well as over-the-air upgrades. Common command set is provided for interoperability, eliminating need for multiple remote controls.

December 28, 2009 JEDEC Solid State Technology Association and SAE entered into MOU to collaborate on development of standards for fiber optic system test and qualification methods for harsh environment applications. Work will be conducted under auspices of JEDEC JC-13.6 Subcommittee whose objective is to publish and maintain standard for fiber optics in harsh environments with emphasis on commercial and military avionics in missile and space systems.

December 23, 2009 In Denmark, BIO and EuropaBio hosted technology showcase to highlight biotechnology's role in producing environmentally conscious products, including those chosen by organizers of UN Climate Change Conference to reduce emissions at the event. Brent Erickson, executive VP of BIO, said "Development and deployment of industrial biotechnology tools can enable reductions of greenhouse gas emissions associated with production of goods and provide opportunities for renewed economic growth."
ATA reports decline in passenger demand/cargo traffic.

December 23, 2009 ATA reports passenger revenue fell 7% in November 2009 vs same month in 2008. Also, about 1% fewer passengers traveled on U.S. airlines, while average price to fly one mile fell 6.4%, marking 13th consecutive month of passenger revenue decline. For cargo traffic, revenue ton miles declined 1% year-over-year for October 2009, making it 15th consecutive month of declining volumes. Annually, commercial aviation helps drive $1.1 trillion in U.S. economic activity and more than 10 million jobs.
