March 1, 2010 Consultant Gary W. Dallin of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, director of the GalvInfo Center, a program of the International Zinc Association, has received the Kenneth J. Boedecker Jr. Distinguished Service Award for his exceptional contributions to ASTM International Committee A05 on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products. A member of ASTM International since 1985, Dallin served as chair of Committee A05 from 2004-2009 and currently works on several A05 subcommittees.
NTSB Chairman Hersman testifies on aircraft icing.

March 1, 2010 In testimony before the House Aviation Subcommittee, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, NTSB Chairman Deborah A.P. Hersman discussed dangers of aircraft flying in icing conditions and highlighted longstanding Safety Board recommendations that have yet to be adopted by FAA. NTSB voted to keep the issue area, along with its four open recommendations to the FAA, on the 2010 Most Wanted List with a "red" classification, which indicates unacceptable response by the FAA.

March 1, 2010 National Transportation Safety Board has detailed several recommendations to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ranging from training and operations to documentation and equipment. Specific requirements address standard operating procedures consistency, flight crew monitoring techniques, reportable icing intensities definitions, and airspeed indicator display systems. Still others dealt with low-airspeed alert systems, training, and professionalism in aircraft operations.
Space Science Conference to showcase NASA mission findings.

March 1, 2010 Science results from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, Chandrayaan-1, and Chang'E-1 lunar missions will highlight 41st annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. Taking place March 1-5 in Houston, TX, conference will include presentations on findings from missions as well as special sessions on water in solar system and characterizing near-Earth objects. Leading scientists will attend to discuss these as well as other topics.
ATA reports rises in passenger revenue/cargo traffic.

February 26, 2010 ATA reports passenger revenue rose 1.4% in January, 2010, compared to January, 2009, while about 0.4% fewer passengers traveled on U.S. airlines and average price to fly 1 mile rose 0.6%. On trans-Atlantic routes, passenger revenue rose 3.4%. Cargo traffic rose 17% year-over-year in December 2009, driven by international trade, while during all of 2009, it declined 11%. Rises in passenger revenue and cargo volumes could be signs of recovery, said ATA's James C. May.

Nominees must be living individuals who have demonstrated significant and innovative accomplishments employing industrial biotechnology to advance a biobased economy and industrial sustainability. Nominations are being accepted online, and deadline is April 12, 2010.

February 26, 2010 According to report released by International Service for Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications, growers worldwide continue to choose genetically engineered crops because of their contribution to agricultural productivity and sustainable farming. Titled "The Global Status of Commercialized Biotech/GM Crops: 2009," report says 14 million farmers in 25 countries are using agricultural biotechnology today, 90% of which are resource-poor farmers in developing countries.

It provides information about space weather conditions past, present, and future and features customizable user interface for NASA satellite operators, scientists, and enthusiasts.
