This total, as reported by companies participating in USMTC program, was down 40.3% from December but up 26.2% from total reported for January 2009. US manufacturing technology consumption is also reported on regional basis for 5 geographic breakdowns of the United States: Northeast, Southern, Midwest, Central, and Western.
Comments Sought on ISO Standard for education management.

March 11, 2010 ANSI and Latvian Standard (LVS), the national standards body of Latvia, are considering joint submission of proposal to ISO for standard on management system requirements for all education organizations. Its aim is to enhance satisfaction through effective application of system as well as to enable organization to know degree to which it fulfills its requirements, controls its resources, and stabilizes its processes. Interested stakeholders are asked to submit comments by April 16.

This is the final stage in development of ISO standard before it is published as ISO International Standard. ISO 26000 is intended to assist in ushering companies, government agencies, and other organizations toward more sustainable global economy by establishing common guidance on social responsibility concepts, definitions, and methods of evaluation.

March 11, 2010 ANSI has submitted comments on draft document concerning standards and intellectual property that was issued by China National Institute of Standardization. In general, ANSI supports China's efforts to address inclusion of technology covered by patent claims in Chinese National Standards. But some portions of CNIS Guide raised questions and concerns for U.S. stakeholders, including articles addressing patent-related disclosures from non-participants and language relating to "essential patents."

March 11, 2010 Reinhold Strnat, president and technical manager of Magnet-Physics Inc., was named chairman of ASTM International Committee A06 on Magnetic Properties, which has close to 50 members who develop standards dealing with magnetic materials and test methods for determining magnetic properties. Having joined ASTM in 1992, Strnat also chairs Subcommittee A06.01 on Test Methods and A06.92 on Terminology and Definitions and has also served as secretary and vice chairman of main A06 committee.

Award recognizes outstanding personal performance in field of plastics, and is presented to committee member who has contributed most toward development and use of consensus standards or who has fostered competency and proficiency in plastics field. Hewitt has been an active member of ASTM and Committee D20 since 1986.
