Paper plots course to improve competitiveness, pointing out that innovation alone is not enough. Report also advocates development of national manufacturing policies, including developing metrics to measure return on investments in R&D and federal laboratories.
ATA and Patni to redevelop ATA Aviation Marketplace.

In addition to redesigned user interface and improved data translation, Marketplace will leverage Web services and XML for real-time information exchange.

Frank Vargo asserts that update of system will improve national security by letting government focus enforcement resources on most critical goods and technologies, and that it will also aid U.S. companies' competitiveness by providing more efficient licensing system.
ASHRAE Guideline addresses indoor environmental quality.

April 16, 2010 ASHRAE Guideline 10P, "Interactions Affecting the Achievement of Acceptable Indoor Environments," provides guidance on achieving good indoor environments by considering interactions of air quality and thermal conditions as well as lighting and acoustics. Currently out for public comment until May 24, this guideline summarizes conclusions of research and experience pertaining to interplay of various factors that determine occupants' reactions to buildings they inhabit.
Senator Hagan Honored as BIO Legislator of the Year.

Senator Hagan, who received this award as part of BIO Legislative Day Fly-In, was honored for her "thoughtful and responsive leadership on issues critical to the biotechnology community" while serving Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. BIO President Jim Greenwood also stated that she "played a key role in the creation of a fair and balanced pathway for the approval of biosimilars."

NEMA, AIA Renew Call for commercial building tax reduction.

April 16, 2010 NEMA and AIA renewed their call on Congress to support increasing Energy Efficient Commercial Building Tax Deduction from $1.80/ft² to $3/ft² to help stimulate immediate job creation. As NEMA President and CEO, Evan R. Gaddis indicated this increase would provide job-stimulating incentive to retrofit and renovate existing commercial buildings. Over 80 manufacturing, construction, and environmental organizations have co-signed letter to Congressional members asking for this increase.

April 16, 2010 American Trucking Associations' Share the Road highway safety tour returned to Denver Auto Show for 3rd straight year to educate motorists on highway safety. Demonstrating to drivers how to share road safely with large trucks, event included messages from Gary Leu, Kurt Pedersen, Ben Saiz, and Ron VanBibber, who are million-mile, accident-free truck drivers. In 2008, 548 lives were lost due to traffic crashes in Colorado, with 56 motorists involved in accidents with tractor-trailers.

With year-to-date total of $291.27 million, 2010 is up 22.3% compared with 2009. Numbers and all data in this report are based on totals of actual data reported by companies participating in USMTC program.

NASPO to develop standard for personal identity verification.

April 15, 2010 North American Security Products Organization (NASPO) notified ANSI of its intent to develop an American National Standard on identity verification, and formal announcement was published in ANSI's Standards Action. Proposed standard will define due process and methods for verification of personal identity related to issuance of primary U.S. identity documents, and assurance levels required for enrollment in major identity management systems.
ISO Technical Report compares body measurements around world.

Report also aims to become reference for various ISO product standards.
