ASTM presents Dr. Chris Ingersoll with Award of Merit.

April 27, 2010 Chris Ingersoll, Ph.D., aquatic toxicologist at Columbia Environmental Research Center has been honored with Award of Merit and title of fellow from ASTM International Committee E47 on Biological Effects and Environmental Fate. An active member of ASTM since 1987, Ingersoll is past chair of Committee E47 and leads Subcommittee E47.03 on Sediment Assessment and Toxicology. In his current role, Ingersoll conducts research to develop methods for assessing bioavailability of contaminants in sediment.

April 27, 2010 Dean Neubauer, Senior Engineering Associate at Corning, Inc., has been awarded with 2010 ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow. Neubauer was recognized for contributions/leadership in publications and in developing standards related to statistical methods and quality control. Member of ASTM International and Committee E11 since 1993, he also chairs Subcommittee E11.30 on Statistical Quality Control and is fellow of American Society for Quality.

April 27, 2010 ASTM E2722, Test Method for Using Seeded-Agar for the Screening Assessment of Antimicrobial Activity in Fabric and Air Filter Media is under jurisdiction of Subcommittee E35.15 on Antimicrobial Agents. Development of the standard was inspired by need for rapid, qualitative screening method that would allow assessment of antimicrobial activity of low water solubility antimicrobials that may not demonstrate typical zone of inhibition observed in other conventional chemistries.

April 27, 2010 Oregon Dairy Organics facility will turn excess manure from Lancaster County farms and waste from yards and kitchens into compost and prevent polluted runoff from reaching streams and rivers as well as Chesapeake Bay. Finished compost will begin selling this fall. Coordinated and funded in part by EDF, project will include facility management/finished compost marketing by Terra-Gro and coordination of farmer participation by TeamAG, Inc.

Mr. C.F. Yang of Kruger Asia, the longtime Pacific Rim Chair stepped down and AMCA Regional members appointed the new Pacific Rim Region Chair, Ms. Bek Siew Hup, of Azen Manufacturing Pte. Ltd. Mr. David Tang, of Kruger Ventilation, Asia was appointed Pacific Rim Region Vice-Chair.

Report shows that 45% of participants expect improvement in economic activity during next 3 months, while 45% predict that activity will remain unchanged. Companies also forecast continued positive momentum in incoming orders, and 61% of participants report that shipping levels are above levels of 3 months ago.

April 26, 2010 Emerging high-speed inertial profilers can collect pavement profiles and, using computer technology, can simulate profilograph responses. ASTM International Committee E17 on Vehicle-Pavement Systems is developing proposed standard ASTM WK26262, Specification for Profilograph Simulation for Airfield Pavements, which will contain procedures for simulations based on current programs in use by U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Federal Highway Administration.

Overall, participants agreed that the most urgent needs are consensus-based, cross-industry standards or best practices that can address current gaps in anti-counterfeiting efforts. Awareness and education of counterfeit goods and detection measures are also critical.
