April 7, 2010 Energy Policies of IEA Countries - Italy 2009 Review acknowledges that Italy has succeeded in diversifying gas supply routes, added electricity generating capacity, and is in the process of further diversifying fuels for electricity generation. However, Review points out that country's energy sector needs integrated long-term vision and that it remains vulnerable in several respects, such as high dependency on electricity imports and long delays in infrastructure development.

Specifically, ISO 14064-2:2006 and ISO 14064-3:2006 are integrated into project protocols, program guidance documentation, and processes. T&E states that motor lobby attack on van CO2 law lacks credibility.

April 7, 2010 According to T and E, some of Europe's biggest-selling vans are already close to meeting proposed EU CO2 targets for 2016 after making improvements in fuel efficiency this year. European Commission's proposal for binding CO2 targets for vans states that manufacturers should cut van emissions to 175 g of carbon dioxide per km by 2016. Meanwhile, car industry lobby continues to claim that EU proposals for binding reduction targets are unrealistic. That claim is not credible, says T and E.
Commitment to Green Electric Cars is needed in Europe.

April 7, 2010 Independent report, commissioned jointly by Friends of the Earth Europe, Greenpeace, and Transport and Environment, warned that putting more electric cars on the road could increase carbon emissions unless they run on green energy. The study warns that existing EU legislation on car emissions is flawed because it allows manufacturers to use sales of electric vehicles to offset continued production of gas-guzzling cars.
Green Groups Sue European Commission over withheld biofuels documents.

April 7, 2010 On March 8 of 2010, coalition of environmental groups filed legal action against European Commission over its refusal to release documents which contain previously undisclosed information on negative climate impacts of widespread biofuel use in EU. Lawsuit alleges several violations of European laws designed to promote transparency, democracy, and legitimacy in EU policy-making. Efforts to gain access to information began October 15 of 2009.
EPA Recognizes leaders in energy efficiency.

April 7, 2010 US EPA is honoring 110 select manufacturers, retailers, public schools, hospitals, real estate companies, home builders, and other organizations as 2010 Energy Star award winners. Specifically, organizations are being recognized for long-term commitment to fighting climate change through greater energy efficiency. Each winner falls into one of 3 major award categories: Sustained Excellence, Partner of the Year, and Excellence.
EPA Energy Star Leaders quadruple savings in 2009.

April 7, 2010 EPA Energy Star Leaders prevented equivalent of over 220,000 metric tons of CO2 from being released and saved more than $48 million across commercial building portfolios in 2009. Milestones include 10% energy reduction across portfolio, which 58 organizations met, and top performer category, which requires buildings to perform in top 25% of similar structures, which 75% of Energy Star Leaders met. Over 100 organizations have been listed as Energy Star Leaders since 2004.

April 7, 2010 IPC has revised IPC J-STD-609, Marking and Labeling of Components, PCBs, and PCBAs to Identify Lead, Lead-Free, and Other Attributes. Presenting marking and labeling system that aids in electronics assembly, rework, repair, and recycling, standard provides additional codes for precise specification of certain lead-free solders. It offers guidance on using range of solder alloys now available. Maximum component temperature for assembly or rework processes is also defined.
Papers on Net-Zero-Energy sought for 2011 Winter Conference.

April 7, 2010 Papers addressing industry's efforts to achieve zero-energy design are being sought for ASHRAE's 2011 Winter Conference. Scheduled for Jan 29 to Feb 2, conference technical program will focus on efficient use of energy, different design approaches and other topics related to refrigeration, standards and codes, and HVAC systems, equipment, applications, and fundamentals. Full-length technical papers or conference paper abstracts should be submitted by April 16.

EPA and DOE announce new steps to strengthen Energy Star program.

April 7, 2010 To help consumers save money and fight climate change, EPA and DOE are working to strengthen Energy Star program. DOE began tests on 6 common product types, including freezers, refrigerator-freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers, water heaters, and room air conditioners. EPA and DOE are also developing expanded system that will require all products seeking Energy Star label to be tested in approved labs and require manufacturers to participate in ongoing verification testing program.

Subcommittee will also provide direction/guidance to ICSP and will rely on ICSP to coordinate policy implementation, assess progress, and develop policy options or guidance.
