June 29, 2010 ASHRAE Standard 62.1 app enables iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users to perform outdoor air calculations found in Ventilation Rate Procedure and interactive 62MZCalc spreadsheets contained in ASHRAE User's Manual for Standard 62.1, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. Commenting on its availability, volunteer head of ASHRAE publishing activities Jim Fields said the app ensures instant access to accurate information without requiring field users to return to their office.

June 29, 2010 Co-chairs of bipartisan National Commission on BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling have selected Georgetown University law professor, Richard Lazarus, to serve as commission's executive director. Lazarus specializes in environmental law and has participated in 40 cases before U.S. Supreme Court. Professor Lazarus worked for U.S. Department of Justice, both in Environment and Natural Resources Division and Solicitor General's Office, where he was Assistant to Solicitor General.
Five States reach major Recovery Act weatherization milestone.

June 29, 2010 U.S. Department of Energy announced that Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Utah have reached significant milestone under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - completing weatherization work for more than 30% of the homes they have planned. Weatherization Assistance Program has weatherized more than 108,000 homes nationally, saving American families more than $47 million on energy bills while supporting more than 10,000 jobs in first quarter of this year.

June 29, 2010 U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced awards totaling over $76 million in funds from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Awards are aimed at supporting energy-efficient building technology projects as well as development of training programs for commercial building equipment technicians, building operators, and energy auditors. Specifically, 58 projects selected will support programs to train workers, develop and deploy best practices, and reduce energy costs.

June 29, 2010 IPC announced May findings from North American Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Statistical Program. For rigid PCBs and flexible circuits combined, industry shipments in May 2010 increased 29.6% from May 2009, as orders booked increased 46.8% from May 2009. Year to date, combined industry shipments were up 16.2% and bookings were up 34.7%. Compared to the previous month, combined industry shipments for May 2010 increased 2.2% and bookings went up 8.3%.
April 2010 Market Report shows drop in U.S. and Canadian sales.

June 29, 2010 According to sales data in PTDA's Market Outlook Report, U.S. sales dropped 0.7% and Canadian fell 10.4%. Respectively, sales in both countries are up 12.7% and 15.2% compared to sales this time last year. Report also showed manufacturer confidence for U.S. and Canada rose to 5.1, while month-to-month sales for product categories witnessed overall decrease with few 3 exceptions for U.S. manufacturers and 2 for Canadian manufacturers.

Metalforming companies also anticipate modest softening for incoming orders, although 30% of participants forecast increase in orders for next 3 months, down from 46% in May. Forty-eight percent reported that average daily shipping levels are above levels of 3 months ago, while 43% report no change.

June 28, 2010 Air traffic controllers in Alaska region are now officially using Next Generation Air Transportation System technology to improve safety and efficiency in Alaska's rugged terrain. A core technology under NextGen, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast gives pilots greater situational awareness when they are near bad weather and allows them to receive updated flight information. Air traffic controllers use ADS-B to keep aircraft safely separated in sky and on runways.

Engler also said that MSCS offers new and transitioning workers access to in-demand skills so they can prepare for high-paying manufacturing jobs. NAM aims to work with lawmakers in both chambers to ensure bill's passage.

These policies would demonstrate enduring federal commitment to increasing alternative energy production.
