Trucking Associations propose sleeper berth pilot project.

December 19, 2013 American Trucking Associations and Minnesota Trucking Association petitioned Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to conduct pilot program. In addition to examining potential benefits of sleeper berth flexibility for professional truck drivers, pilot project will look how technological improvements promote driver alertness/safety. According to Minnesota Trucking Association's John Hausladen, letting drivers break up 10 hr off-duty period into 2 shorter periods would be beneficial.
Equipment Finance Industry Confidence Index decreases slightly.

December 19, 2013 According to the Foundation, December 2013 Monthly Confidence Index for Equipment Finance Industry is 55.8, a decrease from November index of 56.9, reflecting industry concerns over uncertainty regarding capital expenditures and competitive market pressures in 2014. When asked to assess business conditions over next 4 months, 12% of executives said they believe business conditions will improve, down from 17.2% in November, and 9% believe business conditions will worsen, up from 3.4%.

December 18, 2013 EPA is adding 9 hazardous waste sites that pose risks to people's health and the environment to the National Priorities List of Superfund sites. Established by Congress in 1980, Superfund program has provided important benefits, including reduction of threats to human health and ecological systems, improvement of economic conditions and quality of life in communities affected by hazardous waste sites, prevention of future releases of hazardous substances, and advances in science and technology.
Proposed Standard addresses vacuum cleaner air performance. .

December 18, 2013 ASTM WK14392, Test Method for Evaluating the Sustained Air Performance and Exhaust Emissions of Central Vacuum Cleaning Units, is being developed by Subcommittee F11.22 on Air Performance, part of Committee F11 on Vacuum Cleaners. Standard will test how vacuum performance will be affected after multiple vacuuming events over extended period of time. It will help identify areas in which manufacturers may be able to improve designs and provide sensible advertising claims based on industry test.

BIO says EPA's proposal will increase greenhouse gas emissions.

December 17, 2013 EPA's 2014 proposed rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard, which would for the first time cut biofuel use, will require using more petroleum and increase emissions of greenhouse gases. BIO utilized GREET1.2013 model to estimate changes in petroleum demand and associated CO2 equivalent emissions from both 2013 and statutory RFS levels for 2014. According to estimates, EPA proposal will result in an increase of more than 23 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.
