Copies of report, which highlights importance and cross-industry utilization of NextGen technology, will be provided to all attendees.
NEMA Publishes Standard on low-voltage cartridge fuses.

September 20, 2013 Covering 8 classes of low-voltage cartridge fuses (G, H, J, K, L, R, T, and CC), NEMA FU 1-2012 Low Voltage Cartridge examines fuses of current-responsive element inside fuse body with contacts on both ends. These fuses are rated 600 V or less, alternating current (AC), and direct current (DC). Updates include direct current tests for photovoltaic fuses.

September 20, 2013 For first time, Mission Control Center at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston has tested communications with commercial, crew-capable spacecraft, as The Boeing Company conducted an interface test between MCC and software planned for company's CST-100 spacecraft. Boeing has partnered with NASA to develop a fully integrated crew transportation system, with its CST-100 spacecraft and United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, in partnership with NASA's Commercial Crew Program.

September 19, 2013 U.S. Energy Department and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a new label featuring EPA fuel economy estimates and CO2 estimates for used vehicles sold in the USA since 1984. Consumers may create this new label electronically as part of a new tool available on FuelEconomy.gov. While electronic graphic can be downloaded and included in online advertisements on Web, paper label may be printed and affixed to vehicle window.

September 19, 2013 According to IPC's World PCB Production Report for Year 2012, world market for PCBs reached nearly $60 billion in 2012, with 1.7% real growth over 2011. Report shows Asia with 90% of world PCB production. China’s share of world production is now 42.8% and Japan is now distant second with 16%. South Korea had a great year in 2012, surpassing Taiwan and moving into third place, while United States held onto fifth place rank with just under 5% share.

September 17, 2013 EPA announced $1.1 million in competitive grants to 39 non-profit and tribal organizations working to address environmental justice issues nationwide. According to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, "These grants help build capacity, raise awareness, and equip communities with tools to address environmental challenges – from climate change impacts to brownfields and water pollution." Grants will benefit low-income, minority, and tribal communities overburdened by harmful pollution.

September 17, 2013 Assessment of Retrofit Energy Savings Device (RESD) Technologies-Phase II describes and documents energy savings, energy efficiency, and limited power quality and performance assessment of 6 retrofit energy-saving devices that EPRI tested. Devices include lighting controls, electric motor controls, and one residential home energy saver. Devices were subjected to several tests to determine manufacturer’s claims and operation when exposed to real-world operating conditions.

BIO applauds renewable chemical legislation.

September 17, 2013 BIO thanked Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas), and other original co-sponsors for introducing the Qualifying Renewable Chemical Production Tax Credit Act of 2013, which provides renewable chemical producers access to production tax credits currently available for other renewable energy producers. Legislation will reduce taxes for U.S. producers of renewable chemicals, helping them to commercialize homegrown technology and build new biorefineries in the U.S.

September 17, 2013 U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced that the FAA has selected a team of universities to lead new Air Transportation Center of Excellence. Led by Washington State University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, COE team will explore ways to meet environmental and energy goals that are part of Next Generation Air Transportation System. Areas of study will include new aircraft technologies and sustainable alternative aviation jet fuels.
