September 16, 2010 TIA announced winners of the recent Board of Directors elections. Returning Board members include Ernie Caramanico of Amityville Firestone, Randall Groh of U.S. Oil Co., Tom Wright of Wright Tire Service, and Stu Zurcher of Dealer Strategic Planning, Inc. New board members include Paul Dvorak from American Industrial Tire/American Discount Tire Corp and Dan Rose of Tire Alliance Groupe. Additionally, Chip Huber of Q Fix Truck Service in Louisville, KY was elected to position of Secretary.

September 16, 2010 Rules and guidelines for 2010-2011 Hydrogen Student Design Contest: Residential Fueling are available online, and team registration deadline is October 15. For this contest, teams will have to plan and design residential hydrogen fueling system for home, apartment complex, dorm, or other singular residential building. As part of their entry, teams will develop technical design and conduct economic analysis as well as develop business, marketing, and public education plans.

ASHRAE Design Competition gives students hands-on experience.

Students from University of Central Florida won first place in HVAC System Design, while students from Kansas State University won for HVAC System Selection. In Integrated Sustainable Building Design category, students from Lawrence Technological University won first place.
TIA Calls for end of Chinese tire tariff.

September 16, 2010 It has been one year since President Obama signed order to impose punitive, 35% tariff on select passenger vehicle and light truck tires from People's Republic of China, and TIA is calling for either its end or for USITC to collect accurate, objective data on tariff's effects. TIA Executive VP Roy Littlefield, refuting parties who claim data exists that demonstrates success of tariffs, calls such data anecdotal and distorted and demands objective, accurate report.

PLTW-trained teachers have been able to encourage students to consider STEM-based careers, fostering favorable global economic competition.

Comprised of single electrical components, wireless sensor technology is tolerant to damage and requires no electrical connections. SansEC sensor can be designed for measurements unrelated to each other, switch from one to another, or perform both simultaneously. Meeting also hosted presentations, demonstrations, and one-on-one discussions with inventors.

September 15, 2010 As part of activities commemorating U.S. EPA's 40th anniversary, agency is highlighting progress made under 40 years of the Clean Air Act at conference in Washington, D.C. From 1990 through 2008, emissions of 6 common pollutants are down 41%, while gross domestic product has grown 64%. Lead levels in the air are 92% lower than in 1980, and according to preliminary EPA analysis, in 2010, CAA fine particles and ozone programs will prevent more than 160,000 premature deaths.

While ANAB/ACLASS program accredits to ENERGY STAR's computer specification test methods requirement, ANSI's program assesses applicant certification bodies against requirements in EPA's Conditions and Criteria for Recognition of Certification Bodies for ENERGY STAR Program; ISO/IEC Guide 65; and IAF-GD 5-2006.

Additionally, standard may serve to provide alternate method of evaluating fusion devices under more physiologic conditions and allowing comparison to motion-preserving devices.

Child Passenger Safety Forum examines car, plane travel.

Forum will be geared to providing parents and care givers information they can use immediately to protect their children while traveling.
