Specifically, featured sessions will address Hawaiian algae production systems development, cellulosic ethanol commercialization, engineering of biological systems, and challenges/opportunities of bio-products from bio-refineries. Speakers will also describe advancements in biotechnology for biofuels and renewable chemicals.

October 11, 2010 Jointly filed motion in U.S. District Court from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Washington State Department of Ecology asks court to approve and enter judicial consent decree that imposes new, enforceable, and achievable schedule for cleaning up waste from Hanford's underground tanks. Settlement also includes milestones in Tri-Party Agreement, which is an administrative order between DOE, Ecology, and U.S. EPA that governs cleanup at DOE's Hanford Site.

Due to Clearinghouse's wealth of knowledge, resources gathered in furtherance of safe and sustainable schools, and value provided to building and education communities, Institute is looking for ways to continue support of this program.
NIST Awards UMD $15 Million to support nanotechnology research.

October 11, 2010 NIST Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology will award 5-year cooperative agreement totaling $15 million to University of Maryland (UMD) to develop and implement Postdoctoral Researcher and Visiting Fellow Measurement Science and Engineering Program. This program will support development of nanotechnology by providing as many as 100 researchers with one- to two-year appointments at CNST. Positions are open to all qualified applicants.

According to grantees, projects receiving funding under NIST Construction Grant Program (NCGP) will contribute to almost $133 million in new laboratory construction projects. US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said these grants will help US produce world-leading research in science and technology that will advance economic growth and international competitiveness.
New ASTM Standard qualifies floor slab moisture meters.

October 11, 2010 Developed by Subcommittee F06.40 on Practices, ASTM F2659 qualifies which types of non-destructive meters are suitable for determining moisture levels in concrete, gypsum, and other types of floor slabs. It also provides guidelines for how, where, and when such moisture meters are used as well as what limitations exist. According to F06.40 member Sean Fallon, standard lets user take multiple tests in accelerated fashion and get instant readings across slab.
AAMA Official seeks revision to energy efficiency legislation.

October 8, 2010 Draft legislation of "Reduce Energy Bills at Home Act" seeks to modify existing .30/.30 tax credit criteria to selectively mirror ENERGY STAR standards, but reduces current 30%/$1,500 available credit to 10% with cap at $200. Rich Walker, President and CEO of AAMA, believes specific provisions of current draft do not serve as effective incentive for homeowners looking to make energy-efficient home renovations.

October 8, 2010 NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership announced $9.1 million in cooperative agreements for 22 projects designed to enhance global competitiveness of U.S. manufacturers. Projects address one or more of five areas MEP has identified as strategic growth areas. They include responding to evolving supply chains; accelerating adoption of new technology; implementing environmentally sustainable processes; establishing strong workforces for future; and encouraging cultures of continuous improvement.
