December 8, 2010 In line with WTO's Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, China has formally notified the WTO of proposed revisions to Chinese legislation guiding use of toxic and hazardous materials in electronic and electrical products. ANSI Manufacturer Member Roundtable in China has published an English translation of the Chinese document for full members. ANSI encourages interested U.S. stakeholders to submit comments regarding proposed changes and their potential impact on U.S. companies.

ATS program combines classroom instruction with hands-on education, and CTS program utilizes same combination while meeting requirements of OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.177. Both classes are held in 3- or 4-day sessions either in Baltimore, MD or Denver, CO.

December 8, 2010 ASTM, with support from API, will host organizational meeting to discuss development of consensus standards for support testing of diesel exhaust fluid processed using selective catalytic reduction. To take place on January 6, 2011, meeting will cover potential subjects such as storage materials and containers, identification of organic impurities, determination of material suitability, shelf life of fluid, distribution systems, climatic impact, and fluid disposal.

IFPE focuses on integration of fluid power with other technologies for power transmission and motion control applications. Show will feature more than 400 exhibitors, with pavilions from American Gear Manufacturers Association and Power Transmission Distributors Association, sensors manufacturers, as well as international pavilions from China, Italy, and Taiwan.
Incandescent Lamp Index declines to record low.

December 8, 2010 NEMA's index for incandescent lamps declined 17.2% for third quarter, registering record low reading of 46.5. Index also showed year-over-year decline of nearly 19.0%. Shipments of compact fluorescent lamps waned as well, with index dipping 18.2% to 168.8. However, CFLs continue to garner nearly 1 out of every 4 lamp sales, and this is expected to continue until first phase of incandescent lamp efficiency regulations established by EISA 2007 take effect in 2012.

December 8, 2010 NEMA Motors Shipments Index slipped 4.4% during third quarter of 2010. Although demand is below levels observed 2 years ago, shipments have trended higher over past 1.5 years and registered year-over-year gain of more than 8% during third quarter. While fractional horsepower motors gained in market demand, integral horsepower motor shipments continued to weaken. Concerning manufacturing sector recovery, output growth slowed to 4% during 2010 Q3.

December 7, 2010 Accoding to its own annual enforcement and compliance results regarding fiscal year 2010, US EPA took enforcement and compliance actions that required polluters to pay more than $110 million in civil penalties and commit to spend estimated $12 billion on pollution controls, cleanup, and environmental projects. These actions, when completed, will reduce pollution by more than 1.4 billion pounds. Enforcement ensures accountability regarding environmental law.

December 7, 2010 EPA is moving forward with plan to call on certain states to update their Clean Air Act implementation plans to cover greenhouse gas emissions. These changes will ensure that, beginning in January 2011, the largest industrial GHG emissions sources can receive permits. EPA has identified 13 states that need to make changes to their plans, allowing them to issue permits that include GHG emissions. They include: AZ, AR, CA, CT, FL, ID, KS, KY, NE, NV, OR, TX, and WY.
