January 26, 2011 Measuring 233 ft high with 850 square foot tower cab, LaGuardia's new airport traffic control tower will be equipped with latest aviation technology, including Airport Surface Detection System, which allows controllers to track surface movement of aircraft and vehicles. Tower will also feature Integrated Control and Monitoring System, which consolidates information, including navigational aid displays, into one screen.

January 26, 2011 Proposed standard ASTM WK30842, Test Method for Serial Passage Resistance Induction to Assess the Potential for Bacteria to Develop Resistance to an Antimicrobial Compound, is under jurisdiction of Subcommittee E35.15 on Antimicrobial Agents. If approved, it could be used by pharmaceutical manufacturers as well as antiseptic and sanitizer manufacturers during development of new topical formulations to provide reproducible way of evaluating potential for antimicrobial compounds.

ASTM E2786 is the first in a trilogy of E06.21 standards that will be used to determine ongoing performance of firestop materials to various exposures and to determine expected longevity of firestop performance through small scale testing.

January 24, 2011 The FAA has finalized a rule that requires non-scheduled charter airlines and air taxis to train pilots and flight attendants in Crew Resource Management, a concept that helps reduce human error in commercial aviation by teaching aviation workers to act as a team. The training must address the captain's authority; intra-crew communications; teamwork; managing workload, time, fatigue, and stress; and decision-making skills.
